Kilcoo appoint Moran

Slaughtneil football manager Mickey Moran

Down giants Kilcoo have appointed former Slaughtneil boss Mickey Moran as their new senior footballer manager.

The Magpies saw their seven-in-a-row bid for championship titles in the Mourne County foiled by Burren at the final stage last month, with Paul McIver stepping down from his role as manager afterwards.

Moran, who has managed his native Derry, Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo and Mayo in the past, guided Slaughtneil to four championships in the Oak Leaf County as well as three Ulster titles and All-Ireland club SFC final appearances in 2015 and 2017.

"Mickey was unanimously ratified at a club committee meeting this evening and the club are over the moon that the Glen Maghera man has agreed to become our manager," a statement from Kilcoo GAA read.

"(Moran) is renowned as one of the top coaches in the GAA."
