Dan McCartan says Burren are hoping to make an impression in this year’s Ulster Club SFC.

The Down champions open their account against Monaghan kingpins Scotstown this weekend and McCartan is confident they can spring a surprise.

“Scotstown are more experienced than us. They have All Stars, senior players with Monaghan with Ulster medals,” the 35-year-old told The Irish News, “We have all these things ahead of us. And Crossmaglen are back, I’m tired looking at the black and amber when I get to Ulster, but they are there again.

“But why not give it a shot? We are under no illusions of the task ahead of us. We have been training hard – that’s the reason why. We know we were up against it, but sometimes the underdog does win – why not this year?

“You don’t know where it will all end up. That’s why it is exciting. That’s why we are sitting here. That’s why we go to watch football - you never know what is ahead of you. Only one team can win it any year – but you always aspire to be the one. That’s why we are all in football.”
