Gaoth Dobhair and Donegal have suffered a massive blow with the news that defender Kieran Gillespie has suffered a cruciate knee injury.

Gillespie last just a few seconds into Gaoth Dobhair’s Ulster club SFC victory over Cargin on Sunday and the Donegal Democrat reports this evening that results from an MRI scan have confirmed that he will miss the remainder of this season along with a good chunk of the 2019 campaign.

The centre-back had sat out Donegal’s entire 2018 campaign after undergoing two separate hip operations.

There is some better news for his fellow clubmen Odhrán Mac Niallais (broken finger) and Odhrán McFadden Ferry (dead leg), as both are expected to recover from their respective injuries to face Crossmaglen in next Sunday week’s Ulster semi-final.
