Red Hughs club notes

September 18, 2018

U16 Boys

Red Hugh's had to grit their teeth and dig deep to see off the challenge of N.Columba in yesterdays league final. This was the last game of their season where the boys remained unbeaten throughout league and championship.Yesterdays match was a tough test with N. Columba having a great team who also went unbeaten in the SRB league laced with a few county players.N. Columba were first to score and it took Red Hugh's a while to get up and running despite having a goal chance bravely saved in their first attack. Red Hughs then began to get the scoreboard ticking over and perhaps the difference was Red Hugh's were more economical in front of goals. Caolan McClintock was in fine form throughout and really stepped up when needed. Ryan Coyle also had an immense game with Tiernan Kelly and Oisin Gallagher in around the middle third. However yesterday was a day for the normally unsung heroes. The boys who defend and put their bodies on the line to get the ball to the forwards. Each and everyone of the panel played their part when Red Hugh's lost key men to black cards and a second yellow and adapted and coped to the test. The game was close to the final seconds with Ronan McLaughlin scoring a goal at the last kick of the game on a quick counter attack when N. Columba were pushing for a goal to equalise.
Final Score 3-7 to 2-4Well done to boys and management. Special mention to the boys coaches who have given unreal dedication and commitment to these young men.

Meentycat Wind Farm Sponsored Walk
22rd September 2018
Start time: 9:30 a.m.
This event is a sponsored walk that the club has participated in previous years and hope to do so again this year. SSE Airtricity will make a substantial donation from their company’s community fund to our club. The donation made to our club will depend on many walkers we have representing the club. The more walkers we have along with the money we raise in sponsorship the more funding we receive. We are asking all of our players, parents and family to participate in the walk. We are also asking parents, relatives and friends to take part.Any child under 12 needs to be accompanied by an adult and it is the responsibility of the adult to make the decision if it is suitable for their child to participate. It is important that when you arrive at the wind farm on the day that you sign in for Red Hughs Gaa Club and also that you sign out again when you complete the walk. Thanks
