Gaelic for Mothers & Others - Information meeting

We are delighted to announce that Siobhan Coyle will coach the women who are interested. We promise that not alone will this be a great way to get fit, it will also become a great social outlet for all involved. Don't worry about being unfit, there will be something in this for all you ladies.

An information meeting for all ladies interested in Gaelic for Mothers and Others will take place in the Clubhouse, Portsalon on Tuesday July 31st at 8 p.m. This is open to all ladies who have not played competitive football for two years. This will not be a training session.

Senior Ladies

Glenswilly take the spoils in league encounter at Páirc Uí Shiadhail.

Gaeil Fhánada 2-9 Glenswilly 3-11

Glenswilly travelled to Portsalon on Sunday morning to take on Gaeil Fhánada ladies. The game was played in very humid conditions with both teams having small panels of players available on the day. This did not deter either side but did make it difficult to maintain intensity as the game progressed. Glenswilly started brighter, getting several points on the board before the Gaels registered a score. Although this slow start meant that Fanad were chasing the game from the outset, it resulted in a competitive watch for everyone present.

The Glenswilly defence frustrated the Gaels at times, with the home side having difficulty finding a gap to get through. Gaeil Fhánada worked hard to counteract this but were guilty of missing opportunities in front of the Glenswilly net. Glenswilly were particularly dangerous on the counter attack, breaking quickly and catching Fanad too far up the field several times over the course of the hour.

John Mc Conigley will be happy with the Fanad work rate but will have plenty for his team to improve on in the coming weeks. It was good to see Orla Sweeney and Gráinne Friel back in the Gaeil Fhánada jersey, with both performing very well when called upon. We also hope the injury Emma Friel sustained isn't serious and that she'll be back in action soon.

Congratulations Benny & Maria

Huge congratulations to club stalwart Brendan Callaghan, and the lovely Maria Coll, who got married last Wednesday. Benny was a regular fixture in our senior team during our successful period in the noughties while he can still be found hobbling along for the reserve side this year.
