All is not well in Derry U20 camp

Derry U20 manager Micky Donnelly has described the team’s preparations for the Ulster championship as a 'disaster'.

Th Oakleafers are out in action on Saturday (tomorrow) when they take on Fermanagh at Celtic Park in the opening round of the provincial championship.

This is an earlier start than usual and the provincial campaign has been thrown in at the same time that many post primary school competitions are ongoing.

With the likes of St Patrick’s, Maghera and St Mary’s Magherafelt in MacRory Cup action next week and the likes of Ben McCarron and Alex Doherty already included in the senior squad, one can see why Donnelly is far from happy.

Speaking to the Derry Journal, he said: “Call it what it is, it has been a disaster. I would pride myself on preparing teams really, really well. We think we have a good set up, a good coaching staff, loads of good people involved but if, for whatever reason, you can’t get the players on the pitch, it makes it very, very difficult. And ultimately it has been very difficult and it continues to be difficult.”
