Speedy Recovery Graham Geraghty - 5 Like(s)
i remember being at the infamous league match meath v dublin 2008 in parnell park when 5 players were sent off 3 dubs and 2 meath and someone threw a cup of tea aimed at ciaran whelan as he walked off after sending off, graham was a sub being a veteran by this time he was introduced not long after and took up a full forward position in front of the dubs fans end, plenty of nice songs and jeering when he came in, graham turned around and blew them a kiss, the place erupted in a cheer, all tensions disipatted after that!

Cork V Meath NFL Rd 1 - 4 Like(s)
I dont know why but i cant shake the idea or feeling that were not going to win this. I know for years we couldnt buy an away win in the league in div 2 so maybe its ingrained , but on the other hand we do have a good record in cork in league over the last few years. away wins against half decent teams in the league are as rare as hens teeth for meath. cork are probabaly the only big team we have beaten in league away in over 20 years. going by that it looks like meath may only win 3 of the 7 matches this year, v louth, limerick and clare

Portlaoise Sunday Town Goal - 3 Like(s)
big support needed on sunday in portlaoise, we need to make the traditional meath end in portlaoise a wall of noise and green and gold, bring out the flags and as many bodies as you can fit in cars , this is our all ireland final. Clare are a team that could be easily rattled by this and it will lift our lads as it did against westmeath in 2002 and 03 and galway in 07 and limerick in 09. we need to bring out the crowd for this game , so you all know who you are if you were there in the above years see you up there sunday again.

Meath Vs Down - 3 Like(s)
Very odd venue and time, i expect Down are not happy with that. Playing Meath in thier own back yard. The equivalant of going to Corrigan Park to play Down in a supposed neutral venue. Good i suppose for meath fans to tip into from Ashbourne, Ratoath, DunsHAUGLIN , nAVAN

Id take hand and all now for 4 wins and 3 defeats. i cant see us getting anything out of the games away to Donegal and away to Armagh, anything from them games is a massive achievement in itself even a draw. another big achievemnet would to win in breffni park v cavan for first time since early 1960s, they always seem to get up for playing meath, while meath never seem to be as bothered. i can see the games at home to Kildare and Louth, the big Leinster dearbies being the ones where the meath team really targets big time to win, if we win both of those we will be safe , i think we will beat cork and fermanagh also at home. defeat to louth or fermanagh and i think we could be relegated. id like to see us training very hard now and being in flying form come mid february to early april, i wouldnt pass much stock on the rest of the year after that, it unlikely but not out of the question to beat a weakened or half second string dublin team in Navan in early May, espesecially if we were in flying form and dublin trialling players before group stages. group stages nice to get out of them then its bonus territory. for me nothing really to be achieved in all ireland group stage really, a run would be nice but its all about the league for Meath.

if people keep harping on about how far we have fallen then most teams in ireland cant celebrate a win, look at down, cork, cavan all counties with numerous all irelands that dosent mean they keep whinging about how far they have fallen.

well said who really cares about this farce of a championship at this stage. id like to see my own county beat carlow saturday as they should but i wouldnt really mind a handy exit in semi final and avoid the expense of a farcical leinster final

Meath GAA; How Do We Win? - 2 Like(s)
i would like to see Andy bring in some enforcer type players. who have we got that we can bring in to do a job on a marquee player or just get in tems faces , two or three of these players would be what we need, players well built 6-4 type , hit lads and every thing that moves then you can take them off ten minutes intoo second half, we want lads to hit players and knock the stuffing out of them early on in games. we really need this when playing bigger teams.

Is Meath now becoming a hurling county? - 2 Like(s)
westmeath football is in div 4? surely westmeath hurlers are operating at a higher level and id count westmeath as more hurling than football.

on anoother point i havent heard anyone being excited b mcentee taking over, gerry isnt liked by hurling clubs after he said to burn all the hurleys, a good portion of these people would love to see him fail. dont see how we can be excited by meath football, our underage is record is terrible, no leinster minor since 2008 and no u-21 since 2001, where is the future there? were a mid table div 2 team and will be for years to come. throw money at hurling and see what happens thats my thinking

good win again, if we lost we were brought right back into the mix of relegation so thats put to bed now. we go down to brefnni park next week as rank outsiders but with nothing to lose so its a lovely position to be in with a shot to nothing, so you never know where that could take us. cavan are no world beaters so we should be able to rattle them if were up for it, maybe we could catch them on the hop, given our history vs cavan in breffni park id imagine cavan are extremely confident of winning. meath havent won a league game vs cavan in breffni park since 1965, thats a shocking statistic considering our all ireland winning teams in 60s, 80s and 90s at a time when cavan couldnt even win provincial titles. surely high time to get rid of that statistic

Could A Professional Hurling/Football League Survive In Ireland? - 2 Like(s)
I am sorry I havent followed this from the first post. But i am not sure if anyone has said this but people seem to be thinking of this along the lines of counties. I think of we were to look at professionalism would we not need to use just clubs. Abandon the county set up or maybe keep it for a novelty competition every four years like a world cup. We see how great the AIB club championships are. a professional league should just use clubs. Therefore in areas where GAA is strong you will have more clubs, so in premier division you could have 12 clubs and 5 of these maybe dublin based. In the same way as Melbourne is a strong Aussie Rules are they have more clubs in the top league. The intercounty championship imo is dead, its madness , its like having only one club in Melbourne playing Aussie Rules, naturally they would win every year. The chickens will start to come home to roost when you are not filing croke park for all ireland finals when Dublin are going for 8 in a row. People will switch off in the same way they did with scottish soccer.

Can Anyone Name A More Forgone Conclusion Of A Competition Than The Leinster Football Championship? - 2 Like(s)
i wouldnt rate Armagh, Monaghon, Cavan or rosscommon any better than meath, all level and all could beat each other on a day. dont forget cavan were relegated to div 3 while armagh were promoted to div 1. i think relegation to div 3 will kill cavan that was disastrous. they could be a flash in the pan same with tipp gone now for another 20 years before they win a provincial title again,

if were away to cavan id be shocked if we win, we an incredibly bad record vs Cavan in Breffni Park, I may be mistaken but I read in Meath Chronichle in February 2003 when we were beaten by 1-16 to 0-7 by Cavan in Breffni that Meath hadnt beaten them there since 1962 or something? thats over 60 years next year. someone will have to check that out considering meath had all ireland winning teams and NFL winning teams from 1966-1975 and 1986-2000 an amazing stat. i think we will do well to get 4th place, id take that now. Louth, Cork, Fermanagh and Cavan all there for the taking, i think we will struggle with Kildare, Donegal and Armagh. 7 to 8 points id take now. We really need to peak for Fe March and April I think and wouldnt worry after that, i wouldnt put much stock in all ireland group stages just put in a perfermonance its a road to nowhere for likes of us. If were in flying form in April/ May, i wouldnt be that shocked to beat Dublin in Navan in mid May. How much will Dublin be going for that? they may lose McCarthy, Cluxton, Mannion and McCaffrey also, maybe Kilkenny too. they will also have a lot of second string playing those games. I just cant see Dublin putting much into Leinster now with new format, they need to peak in late June and July, for quater finals onward

Regional Championship - 2 Like(s)
Is it just me or does Boyne Valley region make zero sense? Moynalvey players playing along with Syddan players? a player could be just outside Maynooth playing for Moynalvey and another player in Syddan on Louth border? very odd. Regions really should be a case of players knowing each other very well before hand usually going to same schools and drinking in same towns, as case with Ballivor/Athboy/Boardsmill would all frquent Trim or Athboy for this. Where would Syddan - Moynalvey ever come in contact? Syddan should have been with Tuaisceart
