Just watched the re run of the 1978 all Ireland final. This and other games around this time are held up as the golden era of garlic football. Well if this was a golden era, Gaelic football is in a worse state than we thought.
Kerry operating with a double sweeper in Spillane and Jack o Shea. When Dublin forwards got anywhere near the goal in the last ten mins they were just hauled to the ground.
Dublin players such as hickey and Mullins just running around tripping players on the ball.
The quality of football was awful...I mean it was just awful...puke football I'd say as the sweeper on the day coined the phrase many years later.

So Kerry have home advantage against Tyrone which is fair enough given that they won their group. So given that Donegal won their group, why don't they get to have home advantage. Why do Dublin get to have a coin toss?

The football championship is dead..yesterday and today saw the ritual hammering of the minnows by the big guns..it's like the mayfly coming out for one day only to be expired at the close of the day.
Then we have lower league teams scrapping it out in Leinster only to be crushed by Dublin along the way.
It really is pathetic listening to and watching RTE trying to hype it all up.
Donegal Mayo Kerry and Dublin will make their inevitable procession through their provinces and then Dublin will see off two of these three on their way to another boring all Ireland. The Game is truly dead..

You obviously don't understand the rules. On both occasions Spillane and moynihan travelled for 8 or 9 steps while being fouled. Referee couldn't allow scores because both players had over carried. Correct decision on both occasions was to award free kick to Kerry as the foul was the initial transgression. Excellent refereeing decisions.

Really does say it all...but sure the dubs run Croke park so why should we be surprised..they get to pick their own ref for the final, and let's admit it once again he made the big calls that swung the game the dubs way...and of course they got to bring the cup on to the pitch...Limerick had to leave the Liam McCarthy up in the stand..sure when you are the dubs you can do what you like..

More evidence yesterday that our friend from Kerry is completely right..this was a fully professional outfit against a brave amateur outfit..the Dublin support even appears to have turned its back on this team..at ht thousands were streaming down clonliffe rd and incredibly many of them were Dublin supporters..yes DUBLIN supporters...the monster has well and truly been created and it really is time that people got their heads out of the sand...Kerry Donegal Tyrone and mayo will battle bravely but 5 in a row is a certainty and we are in all reality looking at 7,8,9 in a row and beyond...Gaelic football is dying because of the millions pouring into Dublin football.

So now all the opposition has to do is withdraw all 15 players back over the 45..if a goalkeeper can only kick 40-50 yards imagine the congestion in that 20 yard band between midfield and the 45...rewarding high fielding?...what a joke...do the people who came up with these rules have any idea at all about Gaelic football?

unbelievable comments on this thread from apologists for the behaviour of the tyrone players to making fun of the whole thing..its not funny...aghaloo gaa club is the local gaa club in aughnacloy...aghaloo had to struggle through many years operating in a divided village right through the troubles...their pitch was and is right on the border..one of its members was assasinated by british soldiers in the eighties...since those dark days the community of aughnacloy has made a huge leap forward...that parade happens with the co-operation and completely respects mass goers on a saturday night...some members of the protestant community are active in aghaloo gaa club...imagine what they had to put up with this week with members of their own community telling them " i told you so"...so lets not make fun of what happened and lets not make apologies for the stupid actions of that bunch of young tyrone men...i hope they are ashamed of their actions and i hope they are ashamed of the damage they have done to Aghaloo GAA Club
