Shane Long celebrates the Republic of Ireland's victory over Italy

One of Tipperary’s most famous exports Shane Long wrote himself into the history books last night when scoring the fastest goal in an English Premier League match.

Just 7.69 seconds had gone on the clock when the Irish International found the back of the Watford net at Vicarage Road.

The Tipp native has come a Long way since representing the Premier County hurlers for two years at minor level.

He scored 2-1 in the 2003 Munster final win over Cork at Semple Stadium and 2-2 12 months later when the Rebel County exacted revenge at the same stage.

He was also eligible for the minor grade in 2006 but had decided to channel all his energies into soccer by that stage.
