Leinster SHC: Model maul sorry Faithful

May 26, 2018

Wexford's Lee Chin and Brendan Murphy of Offaly

Wexford inflicted a merciless 5-24 to 2-9 hammering on twelve-man Offaly in a one-sided round-robin encounter at Tullamore.

After excellent performances against Galway and Kilkenny, the Faithful County couldn't get going tonight and they were 15 points adrift by the interval, 3-12 to 0-6. A Conor McDonald major opened the visitors' account and Aidan Nolan bagged the second goal to make it 2-5 to 0-2 with twelve minutes played.

Offaly 'keeper Eoghan Cahill saved a Nolan penalty in front of 6,186 spectators but faced up to another one from his opposite number Mark Fanning shortly before the interval, with the Model custodian blasting to the net and Offaly full back Sean Gardiner shown a second yellow card and therefore a red one.

Lee Chin chipped in with the fourth Wexford goal six minutes after the restart and Jack O'Connor registered the fifth four minutes later to leave 21 points between the teams, 5-14 to 0-8. Oisin Kelly pulled back a bullet consolation goal before being sent off and the hosts also had Ronan Hughes dismissed before the end.

Shane Dooley netted another consolation with the last puck but relegation-threatened Offaly have now lost three from three, while Davy Fitzgerald's charges carry a 100% record (after two outings) into next weekend's home meeting with holders Galway.
