Monaghan Minors 2019

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

That was a great result by the Monaghan Minors to register a 3-8 to 0-13 win over Tyrone. The minors were beaten by Tyrone in the earlier Jim McGuigan final. So revenge is sweet, but Tyrone are still in the qualifiers along with Down, Derry are also a strong team who could be waiting for Monaghan in the final if they win their next match. It's all to play for..

Informed by Derry source that the majority of Derry minors we beat in last year's final are eligible this year so that alone has to make them favourites for Ulster !

Tremendous display by Mon this evening despite 3 black cards (first 1 minute into game) & a red near the end. Better coached side won so hats off to management team. Great ability to hit the net.
Ulster final beckons plus last 8 in All Ireland series ! Some great prospects in this side and together with last year's side, future is bright for Farney !

Alot of promising young lads that are coming through, and ones that have experienced success underage so winning is natural to them. Hopefully many of them progress through to senior.

Congrats on what was a much more comfortable win than it looked like been in the first half. I was impressed with ur lads composure and tackling especially in the second half. To be honest though our lads made it easy for u. The Monaghan management made the adjustments necessary at half time and made hay from the forced turnovers when Donegal continually over ran the ball. You hit the nail on the head with the better coached side. I think talent wise not much between the sides but ye were miles ahead on the sideline. Some of the goals Donegal conceded were easily avoidable and would not have been conceded by a better drilled side. Best of luck in the final and the AI series.

What a victory by Monaghan today against Tyrone in Ulster Minor Final in a scorching hot day in Armagh. That's now 2 years in a row Monaghan have won at this grade. A very well coached team without a lot of support from the bench so the entire team played until they dropped. Special shout to Karl Gallagher who was my man of the match...that's his second Ulster minor medal. Young Hamill just did his Junior Cert this year...another great prospect.
Monaghan football has a great future with these 2 Ulster wining teams !

Great result for the under 17s, but this Monaghan senor team will still do noting and they won't for the next 5 to 10 years

You could be right Bern, recent history in Ulster shows that multiple minor/u21 titles can lead to false dawns and very disappointing senior teams.

Great win on its own merits all the same

Agree but surely better to be winning these titles than not. Great achievement.

Great all round performance by the team apart from some wayward shooting in that second half. Should have been much more comfortable. In the end the defence won the match for monaghan with a serious amount of turnovers from good disciplined defending. And Gallagher in midfield looks a terrific prospect.

Well done to all concerned. This group were not heavily tipped to do well this year compared to the 2018 team who were fancied. Goes to show what a great job management have done with them. Hopefully they do themselves justice and beat Cork. 17 wides is a lot. Normally when a team hits that amount they've lost so goes to show the mental resolve this group have. There looks to be at least 5 or 6 truly outstanding players in this bunch.

With the normal attrition of minors to senior, you normally would be be doing well to get 3 or 4 players per minor team but you never know we might get more. At the weekend Meath fielded 7 players who had played in the 2012 all Ireland football final. Dublin had 5 of their senior squad from that day who've gone on to play for them. With good management you'd hope this bunch of Monaghan youngsters can be brought on.
