The 2018/19 Leinster Post Primary Schools Senior 'A' Football Championship has got underway.

It sees nineteen schools teams drawn between six groups (five three-team groups and one four-team group) with the top two from each advancing to knockout round 1 (open draw: group winners v group runners-up). The winners of knockout round 1, plus two combined schools teams, will contest the quarter-finals.

Officially known as the Bosco Cup, in honour of the late Brother Bosco Mulhare, Naas CBS began their title defence in style with a comprehensive 4-18 to 1-10 victory over Scoil Aodhain at Whitehall this afternoon.

The holders, who claimed their first ever senior provincal crown in March, will also face Maynooth and St Benildus, who meet at Maynooth on Friday, in Group A.

In Group C, there was an all-Westmeath clash in Moate where the hosts defeated St Josephs Rochfortbridge by 2-13 to 1-10

Goals in either half from Cian Cassidy helped St Mels Longford overcome St Peters Wexford (2-12 to 0-13) in their Group D clash at Athy.

Today's Group E Bosco Cup fixture involving Athlone CC and Athy's Ardscoil Na Trionoide, which was fixed for Athlone, didn't take place as scheduled.

Meanwhile, at Pairc Tailtean yesterday, St Pats Navan emerged as 4-10 to 2-8 winners over Colaiste Mhuire of Mullingar in Group F.
