Mickey Graham says it’s vital that Cavan hit the ground running in their national football league opener against Armagh.

The Orchard County recorded a seven-point McKenna Cup victory over Cavan at Breffni Park in December and Graham is calling on his charges to turn the tables on Kieran McGeeney’s team in Saturday night’s Division Two clash at the Athletic Grounds. It's a repeat of last summer's Ulster semi-final, which Cavan won after a replay:

“We lost to Armagh in the McKenna Cup and we don't want to lose ground early in the league,” the Cavan manager told The Belfast Telegraph.

“We are trying to get the right balance. Obviously it is going to be tight in Division Two because no team wants to slip into Division Three and be confronted by having to play in Tier Two of the All-Ireland football championship.”
