Replying To galwayXI: "Your team is very questionable !How can you put Bradshaw at 6? He loves adventuring up the pitch !
Brannigan as well another massive call , never really did it for me , might be fast but lacks in other areas like playing football ,
Kelly instead of m Daly another massive call- 2 different types of players , kelly is just a workhorse and can run !
I'd have kelly instead of brannigan !
Conroy lacked the legs in midfield last year and defo won't have it this year !
If you want Galway to play good football , you put players on the team who actually can play football and have the skills and not just a team of strong runners which are hardly ever able to kick a point
The team needs to be a mix of both skillful players and runners !" Not sure what evidence there is that Conroy lacked the legs last year? He almost had his head taken off in the first half against Mayo and had to go off injured and then broke his leg in the first Super 8 game against Kerry. He actually played very little in the championship.

Galway Vs Monaghan - 6 Like(s)
Shane is a huge talent but he played for himself today. Not the team. Barely passed the ball all afternoon. Took off on solo runs while attempting speculative shots from 40+ yards out. He must have dropped 4 or 5 balls short into Beggan's hands along with a few wides. The more frustrated he got the more he wanted to do it all by himself. It was back to the Shane of a few years ago unfortunately.
Didn't even think Monaghan were the better side to be honest. All the missed goal chances came from Galway. Sure, Heaney missed an open goal from a yard out!
Credit to Matthew Tierney who showed a lot today I feel. Made Kelly's goal brilliantly. Caught a massive mark to draw the sides level. Kicked a huge 45. Awful unlucky his shot from distance rattled the crossbar and came out. Could have easily bounced into the net or bounced over the bar.

Armagh Vs Galway - 6 Like(s)
Replying To BLT: "Comer may have started it but based on the crazy rule of "contributing to a melee", he can't get any retrospective ban. A lot of Armagh lads could though. Deplorable behaviour by their subs and non togging subs. Even people involved with the team doing far too much pushing and shoving.
I think the worst piece of the weekend was the fact that Sean Cavanagh was on the Sunday Game talking about sanctions etc. This is the same chap who the GAA brought in a new rule on the back of his rugby tackle on Conor McManus." Comer didn't even start it. The camera just caught Comer's reaction but it was one of the Armagh lads who got in Comer's face first. Then the pushing and shoving started.

Must be one of Conroy's best ever displays for Galway after he came off the bench. Scored 4 points (3 from play I think) and set up the goal.

Also Niall Daly in for Comer at the start only to have to sub him off after 20 minutes? Felt for Daly as he was asked to do a. Job he's not suited to.

Replying To Sportsfanatic90: "Kilconly to beat aran and dunmore to get through, kilconly to win it out they have a good forward unit.
Aran will bottle it as per usual" I heard one of the Aran players interviewed on GBFM recently and he said they are down 3 regular starters this year due to serious injuries including Mulkerrin obviously. A huge blow for a small club with a limited playing pool. Yet they are still back in the mix for promotion like they are most years. Rather than calling them bottlers I'd say they put a lot of other clubs to shame with how they maximise their resources most years.

Good win for the Galway U-20's beating Dublin in the final of the John Kerins Cup. Did well to come back from losing their first game against Roscommon to beat Cork, Laois and Dublin.

Replying To crafty: "The ref was an absolute joke but there is far more to it than the ref. This Galway team has never been convincing. They won one good game v Tipp two years ago and to be fair Tipp were the better team that day. They fell over the line against a poor Waterford team in the final. It was nice to see Joe getting his medal that day.Yesterday we had two ordinary teams but Dublin had the Ref and a greater desire to win and good luck to them. The Galway backs are poor with the full back being very over rated. Limerick, Tipp and even Cork are playing at a different level now.Defeat yesterday saved us from a probable hammering from one of them which would be much worse." Galway fully deserved to won the two semi-finals they did against Tipp. In fact they were unlucky to lose they one they did as they lost Joe and Tuohey to injury early on.
A tired team this year but no need to rubbish all the great days they gave us previously.

Quite a nasty atmosphere in the GG during and after the game. Galway fans receiving quite a bit of a abuse. I know Mayo supporters were frustrated after the last 4 years and are desperate for an AI but a fair bit of it was really out of order. Sad to see as it's always been a friendly enough rivalry.

Replying To LetsPlayBall: "Gallagher was spectacular at the weekend.
2 weeks time will tell where Moycullen are at when they face Corofin.
The Jimmies could be facing relegation after their performance against Barna." Couldn't understand how Gallagher looked decent the first 3 or 4 games in the league and then seemed to be phased out altogether. Certainly looked good enough to get 15 minutes here and there off the bench. Management seemed to lose faith with every sub this year bar O'Laoi.

Replying To galway19: "All over for the under 20s and that should be the last we see of Brian Hanley at this level. Never going anywhere this year with Cork and Kilkenny well ahead of everyone else and not having the senior lads was a big loss but not reaching a Leinster final is very poor." Bigger problems than just Hanley though. There's over a decade now of failure at U20 level. And of players not improving at all from minor to U20. Offaly had better more skilled players with a better touch today. It's a serious issue that the minor All-Ireland wins has glossed over.

It would actually be very useful if Galway GAA released an official training squad and then released when squad cuts are made much like the IRFU do. It would stop a lot of the bullshit and made up rumours flying about.

Firstly the main reason Galway didn't win the game was they didn't take their chances. Had 4 decent goal chances and didn't take any of them. Kicked a couple of 45's wide. Comer hit the post twice including his hawkeye one. That's too many scores left behind.
However as a player I didn't care whether the ref gave a load of handy frees or you had to be killed for a free. As long as he was consistent at both ends. Today he wasn't. Mayo got handy frees but at the other end Galway weren't getting them. Case in point being mid way through the 2nd half, Comer was being pulled and dragged every direction but still tried to get a shot away. He was off balance because he was being fouled so the shot drifted wide. Ref staring straight at it and ignores it. Down the other end anyone laying a hand of O'Shea's shoulder was being blown for it. Conroy ran down a blind alley and got held up and got a handy free for it. It's this inconsistency that annoys people.

Mayo v Galway June 18th - 3 Like(s)
Replying To fairplay4ever: "Delighted with the win even if i travelled down with more hope than confidence.Lads battled hard and fully deserved their win but a word of warning-nothing won yet(i.e a Connacht title) and i thought Mayo were dreadful(about 10-12 players misfiring) yet we only just beat them . It may be a monkey off our back and I'm hoping that the confidence that comes with the win will allow the lads to kick on further .
Interesting comments today by the great Willie Joe in that he said that Galway played better 12 months go but lost. I'm inclined to agree but open to changing my mind .I do feel that they had a better plan this year and more clinical in its execution." No way Galway played better last year. Only for AOS being fouled almost constantly by Hanley we would have conceded 3 or 4 goals. Mayo didn't even have the sniff of a goal chance last weekend.

Replying To AnCrúiscínLán: "First of all, Kerry weren't at full strength. Clifford brothers came on, and barely looked interested - nothing to be gained from flogging a dead sheep mentality..
As regards the "great" players missing - people have short memories...
Mulkerrin, Molloy and Silke not up to intense IC scrutiny - mainly due to lack of sufficient pace for this level.
Cast your minds back - this doubt was always there. So, we await the return of the remaining "magnificent 7" with trepidation.." That was Liam Silke's first game of intercounty football since the 22 AI final. He's probably rusty alright but a huge jump to say he's not up to playing intercounty football. He was pretty good at it just before he left.
