Down V Mayo - 3 Like(s)
There's no doubt that Mayo fans are facing a very long journey and a late finish in Newry, but the GAA had to take into account a few factors when fixing the throw in for 7pm. The location of the ground means that 90 per cent of what should be a huge attendance will be coming through a very slow town centre, and clashing with Saturday afternoon shopping would have been almost impossible. The two large shopping centre car parks are going to offer free access for the game but would not have been available for an afternoon start, causing further congestion. It goes without saying that Newry is a border city so taking the advice of the police is also essential. There is also the involvement of Down hurlers in the Christy Ring final at Croke Park at 2pm. Finally, Mayo supporters will remember that three of their last four league matches against Down were in Castlebar. It should be a great night no matter what happens and everyone from Mayo will be very welcome to Pairc Esler.

Down Senior Footballers 2018 - 2 Like(s)
It is difficult to make sense of the previous post but it is well documented that the Branagans have turned down a series of invitations to join the county squad, Devlin decided to drop out of the panel, Laverty at 34 and Gordon at 35 are pretty unlikely to return and McConville did not feature for his club in last year's championship. While our manager had a bad result yesterday, he can only work with the players who are available to him.

Brolly gives Down a free pass - 1 Like(s)

Replying To yew_tree:  "I didn't see the game live but watching the highlights and it showed some reckless tackles from Down and Brolly admittted eight could have been sent off but it's ok.....why? Everyone admires Down but why are one a judged different to another? I could only imagine if it were Mayo or Dublin what the reasguln would be."
Brolly was just being Brolly when he suggested there could have been eight red cards at the Athletic Grounds. There were certainly some big hits from both sides, and McParland deserved his early yellow for landing on McManus, but there were nothing else which could really have justified a dismissal. The game was largely played in a good spirit and, rather than ignoring aggression from Down, the referee if anything gave Monaghan a series of dubious frees in the last quarter.
