Michael Darragh Macauley will miss Dublin's next two Allianz Football League fixtures against Mayo and Monaghan with a groin injury.

Speaking after last night's dramatic draw with Kerry, new Dubs boss Dessie Farrell refused to rule out the possibility of the seven-time All-Ireland winning midfielder needing surgery.

“Michael is going to be out for a period. I'm not too sure just yet how long, but he probably won’t be involved in the first three league games anyway," he said.

“The doctors are looking at the injury now. Not sure at this point in time what’s required.”

James McCarthy captained the All-Ireland champions last night, but Farrell pointed out that no decision has been made yet about who will skipper the team this year, while he also hinted that there could be further additions to his management team which currently comprises Mick Galvin, Paul Clarke and Shane O'Hanlon.
