Tipperary 4-15

Cork 1-14

Tipperary score three first half goals to open their Munster MHC campaign in fine style against Cork at Semple Stadium.

A Padraig Power point had Cork - who defeated Clare seven days ago - in front inside 15 seconds before Tipp's James Devaney had a penalty saved by Cian Lyng. But the hosts didn't have to wait long for the opening goal from Kevin Maher after Jack Morrissey had set him up.

Sean Hayes fired over a point before Devaney crashed home Tipp's second goal and Hayes added his second point to leave the Premier perched on a 2-2 to 0-1 lead after 10 minutes.

With Power to the fore, Cork clawed their way back into contention before Hayes lobbed Lyng for Tipp's third goal to help them to a 3-7 to 0-8 half-time lead.

The Rebels resumed with points from Power and Cormac O'Brien and they were given real hope when substitute Aaron Mulcahy's goal reduced the gap to five points, 1-11 to 3-10.

But the homes side responded with a point from impressive midfielder Max Hackett before substitute Devon Ryan put the result beyond doubt with a fourth goal after Devaney had supplied the final pass.
