Hello lads,
Just wondering why Dermot mccabe would be a poor appointment Not high profile enough? Divisive? Or both? I'd have thought he would carry weight with the players

When was Dermot McCabe manager of the Cavan Minors. He came in to help Garry Donohoe out if my memory serves me right.

I thought he was joint manager with Gary Donoghue in 2011 Sean. May be mistaken.

Ask the clubs in Monagahan he was involved with Eddie and you'll get your answer.

If we can't get an outside manager what about Ciaran Reilly who is with Killygarry? He had had success with Mullahoran and Ballinagh and seems to get the best out of his players.

I know he was involved when Galway beat them in Longford but I never realised that he was a manager or joint manager. I know Garry came to me when he finished with the minors and thanked me for all my efforts in helping them no one else did that so I assumed Gary was the man in the pole position.

I think Gary O Donohoe was Minor manager with Jody Clarke and Dermot mc Cabe as selectors.

I am not sure to be honest but I never remember him as a manager of the Cavan minors. I stand corrected however. IHis brother Seamus was with the minors with Gary all right.

Looking back on programme for ulster final and no mention of mc Cabe. I remember he was outside gate in stand for Galway game so he wasn't manager or selector to the best of my knowledge. Gary Donohoe was manager. Dermot is coaching and games development officer so he can't manage any teams to the best of my knowledge or he'd have to give up his job . He's doing a good job where he is

Yeah he is . He was on the Kerry panel up to last year . Was away for a few games there but is back now . Played midfield last week and done very well and can score. Paul lukie is a big loss not now but when it comes to the knockout. Think we will top the group . Gowna to come second . Ballyhaise down a lot of players and killygarry not playing well .

Would think that Dermot Mccabe would be a great choice for manager. Great passionate Cavan man. Finbarr Reilly & Frank Brady are supposed to be his selectors. Shame that certain people feel the need to throw the toys out of the pram when names mentioned that aren't of their preference!!!

And how exactly does being a "great passionate Cavan man" qualify you to be an inter-county manager? I too am a passionate Cavan man. So are my neighbours. Should we be in the running for the job also?

Again, and we've seen many examples of this with names touted about, sentiment and emotion should play no part in this process, we need a logical rational approach, leave the nostalgia at home.

As for throwing toys out of the pram, Oh god forbid someone would have a different opinion to you! How shameful of them!

Yes off course Ned_stormcrow anyone can apply for the job of county senior manager's job, it however should not be down to what they might have done in football or what they are doing today. Two names mentioned above I am not sure they can even apply for the job because of what they do all ready.
I have to say names that are being bantered about by many on here tells me they don't have a clue about the game the selection of players and their ability to make constructive calls during a game. The mind boggles I have to be honest with you listening to individuals about this game that was once a pleasure to watch and one gets the answer as to why we will be going no place fast, I hope the person that do get the job will put friendship behind him with his team and pick our best players. Watching players over the last two weeks and one would wonder why certain individuals are NOT on the current county panel . ????

Agree with Ned, a passionate Cavan man (that's an awkward image!) is not what's needed now. I think a lot of our internal candidates can be blinded by player reputations and false assumptions- we do tend to wildly overestimate our own players' ability.
Someone with capacity for cold, sharp analysis of the Cavan players available is more important. Start with the correct assumption that this is a very ordinary group of players and work from there. No dreaming, no talk of U21 titles, no certain starters.
Mattie McGleenan is the man.
