Was in Spain on vacation when Cavan and Derry drew the first day . We got back in time for the replay in Omagh that was a great game and a very good Cavan team should have won an Ulster title. Ray Cullivan didn't play in the replay flu I think huge loss . A young fellow of the name Paul Keally scored a terrific goal for Derry in the last couple of minutes he wasn't even togged out the week before turned out to be the winner. Derry went on and lost to Meath in the ALL IRELAND SEMI Paul emigrated shortly afterwords as did I , we became good friends playing against each other in Philadelphia I still bust on him about that goal when having beers, good lad.

Just saw the team. I suppose along expected lines !! Personally I would have Josh Hayes and Niall Murray in the back line for Killian Brady and Flanagan. Also would have preferred O Mara in the goals. Really think these 3 are very unlucky. Another big worry is the descipline of Killian Brady. Hope Im wrong !!
Midfield looks strong but maybe not that mobile. Forwards as expected with Jack Brady probably lucky to get in.
Havent seen the subs but they should be strong with Seanie, Argue, Henry, 2 Hayes, Murray, Buchanan and some more.
Presume Rory Dunne and Mc Loughlin are still injured.

Hope we have the form team starting but I would be slightly worried.
Still will make our way up in lots of hope.

Would be worried about midfield- the 2 lads class ball players but tend to go missing for 20 minutes during matches and lack mobility.

Strong team along expected lines. Surprise Niall Murray is not starting although I would say you will see him coming in early in the second half, hopefully
to help close out the game.

What's the injury update on Rory Dunne as hopefully before long we can get him back into the full back line. With him and Clarke in there fully fit you can start to see Cavans defence develop into a top, top unit. Get in game time for Givney, Keating, Johnson,Mackey and I really believe We're heading in the right direction towards Championship time.

Exactly. Tyrone know how to handle, nurture and promote their under-age teams. We are truly clueless in Cavan, do the same thing year on year and hope for a miraculous breakthrough which is never going to happen as our county board lacks innovation and vision.

I don't live in, or play my football in Cavan, but this I can tell you, people in my adopted club often ask me "what ever became of Cavan's good underage teams?" and this is the general view of Cavan now i.e we have not delivered. I see Bernard Flynn has us tipped for relegation. We can't keep hiding behind excuse after excuse.

I think we have looked strong for the last few years early in the leagues, but it has proved to a false dawn in the end.. in that we looked mentally and physically tired (with a lot of miles) when the summer arrives..

I'd rather see a building of something geared for the summer even if its still a long way off.

Ned - the difference with Cavan and some others is we had a brutal senior team when these U21 teams were coming through. Therefore the young lads were parachuted in early. Tyrone have always had a spine of top players allowing a more gradual introduction of young lads. Why people like you intentionally omit this from the debate I don't know. It's totally stupid to blame the county board for this, there efforts in recent years to strengthen our underage where previously it was dire should be the one thing they are complemented for.

You're misconstruing my words Fred. I never made any connection between the co.board and blooding in youngsters. What I did say was that the co.board lacks innovation and vision, as you correctly say the state of club football in this county is unforgivable, if we really want to make rewarding progress, I feel that tough decisions will have to be made, and that includes a number of clubs disbanding/amalgamating. Again, you are right about the intransigence of the clubs, the appetite for success just isn't there among the Cavan football supporters, look at how the county champions celebrate when they win the title year on year, party like it's the end of the world even though they have an Ulster game in a week or two.

This was a game we could have won which would have given us a great start to our league campaign. However our old faults came back to haunt us. Once we got within shooting distance we start to back peddle and don't have the forwards to get the scores.Management too slow to make changes when certain players weren't playing well. New year same old story I'm afraid.

Marita i really have to agree no one prepared to take a chance kick outs left a lot to be desired considering he was never under any pressure felt management not able to make decisions quick enough i really hoped things would have improved with all these players back
