Slasher. I think we will be in the running for promotion. Remember last year had we beaten Meath (missed 2 open goals) and should have got a disallowed point in Kiltoom we would be up now. Now that would be a horse of a differnt colour !! I think we are stronger up front this year .

BreffniDub,

I don't like our first two fixtures, Tyrone and Derry. Lose those two and the doubts set in. They are very difficult games. Win one of them and we can do ok .against the other teams. A good start is half the battle but are we strong enough to get a good start? That's the question.

Don't think Dunne is back in no. Unless very recent!

My team for the start of the league would be:
A O Mara ........ probably the best of whats available
J Hayes ..assuming J Mc Loughlin is not on the panel
Rory Dunne ..............if available
P Faulkner .........improving with every game
C.Brady ....... gets forward
C Moynagh .. great range of passes
Niall Murray . very improved player
Killian Clarke....strong player around the middle
D.Givney............his best position
M. Argue. can score from long range
D. McVitty/C. Conroy... either would fit the bill
G. McKiernan. can score from out the field
E. Keating....will win ball
Paul O Connor .. great footballer who can take goals
N. Mc Dermott......will need to improve
SUBs

R Galligan. would double up for goals/forwards
Martin Reilly.. all over the place & no end product
Cian Mackey.. good player but runs into trouble
Joe Dillon .....if the ball went in it would stick
Liam Buchannon .....great prospect
Mossy Corr ... poor discipline
Kilian Brady ... same as Corr
Enda Henry .. needs more games
F. Flanagan. . cover for any defensive position
S. Johnston... nearly forgot about him !!!
I probably left out a few but i m sure i ll be reminded.
Argue and M c kiernan would funnel back to make a four man line across the middle for kick-outs - we need to start winning a few .

Would agree with a lot of that team but I think you had a rush of blood to the head when you said...

Martin Reilly.. all over the place & no end product

He was our player of the year last year and our best player by a distance.

Otherwise, I like the idea of McKiernan in the forwards. Hope Givney makes an impact this year. He has had a year out to clear his head and recover.
Make no mistake about it, we have a strong team and panel this year - the best for many years. Hope that TH can get the best out of them. If he doesn't then players will walk next year again.

If TH does not get the best out of them he is gone!

agree with most of that tenyearplan but I think you are a bit harsh on poor Martin Reilly. I think we missed him against Derry the last day. maybe his problem is that he does too much work. He covers for defenders and carries the ball forward great and links up with the forwards. He is capable of scoring as he showed against Derry in 2013. I don't think he deserves to be dropped. mackey as well, thought I take your point about running in to trouble. although to be fair to both of them perhaps they are trying to create something rathe than take the easy option . either way I think we have plenty of options in the attacking half of the field with;
mcKiernan,Mackey,M. Reilly,Keating,Johnston,McDermott,Jack Brady,Chris Conroy,Paul O'Connor,Joe Dillon, Tom hayes,Enda Hnry,Enda Reilly. so we should be able to pick 6 starters from that lot that could score a point or 2 each.

maybe i am a bit harsh on Martin Reilly but i feel he has no definite role in the side - you find him in the full back line as much as in the forwards which ,in my opinion, serves no purpose other than draw the opposition on to you. its not only him - its symptomatic of the way Hyland thinks they should play. We re on the back foot the whole time. Take the shackles off and we re as good as anyone . Im hoping that eventually the manager might see that before its too late for him and the team. I m an optimist however - I m going for a three point win for Cavan on Sunday !!!

Well I tend to agree that Hyland has a big year ahead of him. This is the strongest panel that I have seen for years and I think Martin Reilly came out and said it in an interview recently. Do we have the know how on the line?? I think not but hope that I am proven wrong.

If everyone was fit and available i would go with this:
A O Mara,Jason McLoughlin,Rory Dunne,Fergal Flanagan,Ciaran Brady,Niall Murray,Dara McAveety,David Givney,Gearoid McKiernan,Cian Mackey,Killian Clarke,Martin Reilly,Niall McDermott,Eug Keating,Paul O Connor.
Tom Hayes,Seanie Johnston,Ml Argue,E.Henry,M.Dunne other forwards options, Mossy and Buchanan and Argue other midfield options,J.Hayes ,Padraic Faulkner,C Moynagh,Gerry Smith other defensive options along with McEnroe if he comes back. Also look at bringing David Brady and Thomas Galligan in after 21s regardless of age.

Good enough performance against Tyrone even if we didn't win.
We seem to be getting stronger but have another huge test next Sat against Derry.
I feel we have to win this one if we are to push for promotion and get a run going. Lose and we're battling against relegation.

I would never like to see a player injured but given this lads antics in Croker last year...well...

If we beat Armagh and Laois in Breffni it will be about the height of it . We haven't the bottle to beat Meath in Navan . We won't beat Fermanagh away and the Galway game at home depends on if Galway need anything out of it too. If they safe they might not be bothered. So it's 6 points max

Why not beat fermagh away,we haven't lost to often. In Brewster, we have just lost by 1 point and 2 Points to possibly the 2 best teams In the division, so why say we Won't win more than 2

Fermanagh under McGrath are a totally different side to the one Canavan managed. They play a good combination of attacking and defensive football, they have better forwards than we do, and are arguably stronger at midfield too. In close games Cavan haven't just don't have the mental capacity to see them through, when games are in the melting pot, we fold. There numerous examples of this, and I expect the remaining 5 games to be tight and we're already under huge pressure to start getting points on the board.

It's dissappointing that we lost both our opening games, but as other posters have said we were not outplayed in either of them. it was small margins. I believe we can beat Fermanagh,Meath,Armagh and Laois. I don't think we can compete for promotion now as I believe Tyrone and Derry will not be beaten by any of the others.
If we get the rub of the green in those games and improve our shot selections then why not. By all accounts Fermanagh were no great shakes against Meath. Armagh are missing lots of experienced players and meath v Cavan in Navan is always a good battle. We owe them one.
