Im not even getting into this any further as we have played one McKenna cup in the first week of January and we all know that things will be different come the first round of the championship!

Exactly. People are losing the run of themselves because we beat Armagh in a McKenna cup game. Talk of Terry Hyland being brilliant for bringing back Johnson and Keating. Others mentioning Ulster titles.

People have very short memories.

In my view, taking all things into consideration, Cavan will be relegated from division 2. I hope I'm wrong, but all the Ulster teams in the division would be considered better than us. There's a reason we're ranked 8 out of 9 in our province, and that's simply because we haven't shown anything better.

Cavan were ranked 8th best team in the Country in 2013 after reaching the Quarter finals, not that rankings mean anything.

Cavan have 4 home game in the National League this year, They have to win at least 3 of those, capable of beating Fermanagh or Meath away. They need to get the discipline sorted. The Down and Kildare games last year were thrown away after the red cards. Could easily have been promoted had they won those games.

Does anyone else think it's a bit odd that Givney, McKiernan and Keating left at the same time and are returning at the same time? It's as if they had served some sort of collective suspension.
For me, Declan and David would be good additions to the squad. While Eugene is a great ball winner, like Johnson he is a shoot-for-a-point on site merchant. Off the two, Johnson is the more accurate. However, neither is effective at opening up defences with quick layoffs to create goal chances. As a target man, Eugene offers much, if he can be encouraged to spread the ball quickly and often. I wouldn't have Seanie under any circumstances but it's going to happen so I'll have to get over it.

Givney will probably be played in the middle because of his height and aerial ability. I'd play him as a wing half forward, which I believe is his natural position. Val played him there a few times and he was very effective. I think it would be better to have a natural ball carrying forward running at defences with real menace, than playing an extra defender in this position. David has the ability to start a goal move. I'd love to see himself, Tom Hayes and Chris Conroy in the same forward line.

Right so now that Martin Dunne has seemingly made himself available for selection again will he be brought in? I'd happily see him in the squad but I'm not sure he'd be a starter, decent option to have off the bench though.

Id say Dunne may have lost heart after he slipped down the pecking order last year. After being our top scorer in 2014, he spent most of last year on the bench. Hard to know what happened there. We dont see or hear what happens in training etc.

No don't find it that odd really at all. i know mc Kiernan or keating just didn't commit last year with work and living in Dublin and Givney had a serious ankle injury which required surgery and played very little football in 2015. So doesnt sound that odd plus mc Kiernan isn't even on the panel this year

Good all round performance, but I'd be wary that Cavan are taking this competition too seriously year after year only to be burned out come Summer. Nowhere was that more evident than last year when our players were dead on their feet against Monaghan in the last 10 minutes.

On a different note, Niall Murray is becoming a real leader and is making that jersey his own.

Not sure how I felt about Johnson coming back.

Given the number of new guys on the panel it will be hard for them not to take it seriously. I am of the opinion that the new guys should not be judged totally on this competition, ground conditions will be completely different come the summer. Lets hope that the new guys create the necessary competition for the more established players on the panel. This day three weeks its Tyrone in the first round of the League. Given the way they go about things they will want to be going into that game as McKenna Cup winners

Lots of positives in the last 2 outings,, especially the number of goals scored.
This years league Div2 looks very tough and it is no bad thing to hit the ground running. Burnout happened in New York during late April last year Ned, not in January
Relegation contenders usually emerge in the first 3 league matches so a good start will have Cavan looking up not down. If TH has the confidence to use the younger attacking talent at his disposal then Johnston will not be needed.

Johnston has a bit of experience so harm having there despite the baggage. He must be the only player on the panel over 30. The likes of Donegal, Monaghan have 5/6 over 30. Marc O Shea and Aidan O Mahoney still playing on with Kerry this year at 35.

Good win last night but the students were poor so I won't be counting any chickens yet.
Is Gearoid not on the panel this year. I thought I saw him there last night.
Good move to get Johnston make his return last night in the fog when we were a couple of goals up. Get all the media attention out of the way and let him get on with finding his feet like the rest of the panel. Good to see Barry Doyle from Cornafean get a start and he aquited himself well.
Paul o Connor was very unfortunate to get a black card Kieran Hughes surely the next Michael Fassbender.

Great to see all the new players playing well last night on a very grassy and heavy sod, Seanie took to the pitch to a small round of applause but to no booing and was showing for the ball with enthusiasm. Seen Rory Dunne out training on the back pitch during half time with a team official and looked fit so I would imagine we will see him during the League matches as they come around, Cian Mackey was togged out too but seem to return to the dressing room early as If he had an injury before the match started but he was not listed to play. Young Joe Dillon hits hard and would want to be careful as he could see a lot of Red Cards!
