Hyland to continue with Cavan

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Heard in Ramor last night at the game that Cavan management now struggling to put a backroom team in place. Is Pauric Dolan the only selector left? He is a great servant to Cavan football but experience at junior club level is hardly sufficient CV for the job. You could see Peter Donnelly's hand in the Tyrone win yesterday, Donnelly was a huge loss to Cavan, with him gone and Joe Mc Carthy and now looks like Liam mc Hale is gone too Hyland has lost the best of his backroom team. That level of talent will be hard to replace. It was also suggested that Hyland may have to look inside the County Board that voted him back in for people to come into his backroom team. He is quoted in the Celt as saying there's no hurry he has to sit down and talk........with who? Does he realise championship is upon us and games and players to be looked at. Declan Mc Kiernan and Martin Dunne showing what they can do for a start????

I cant see anyone rushing to join Cavans backroom team and who would blame them.... Nobody will fancy assisting Terry knowing he will prob have to go at the end of next season... The CB should have cleared all out and left a clear opening for a new management team to be put in place

Sean66 - There are plenty of honest to god good GAA people in Cavan who have the county at heart and will give up their time to assist Terry. These people are in stark contrast to a crank like you that is happiest to see Cavan lose. We certainly dont need one of the cranks near the county team that is for sure. I can also tell you that David Givney will be back next year so that will dispel another one of the nasty rumours you, Mowbar and Deanmartintynan has stuck up here over the past months.

I suppose the young lads who won the Gerry Reilly tournament will all eventually be turned into defenders.
Forwards are the order of the day, you saw what happened to Monaghan when their only decent forward was shackled by Tyrone.
Terry should be working on this side of the game.

I really don't know what you think of me and I don't care to be honest.
I have not slated the manager so take me out of the hate Terry team.
I have never said David Givney would not be back for I know what is going on with him and should the work that was done on his bones in parts of his legs work be a success I hope he comes back.
I am a long time now traveling the length and breath of the country to watch my team and if I make a comment I have every right to do so as I dig deep to pay to go to these matches all through the winter for we very rearly get a chance to see them in the summer I think I have been watching Cavan now for 58 years since I was able to go to see them myself.
I hope the tactics will change and I wish people would stop blaming A. Forde for the way things are right now. His heart is in the right place and I am sorry to see him gone for sadly he is being used as the lamb to the slaughter instead of others you know it I know it and 90% of the country knows it.
Watching players over the last few weeks and I hope the management can see them as well for a few have stood out so far. Funny thing none are on the the county team and some of these have played as well strange don't you think.

Mowbar .... While I agree with a lot of your post and admire your passion as a staunch supporter I can't agree with you on the Forde issue. Nor have I heard even 1panelist raising concern that he left and that includes his own club mates past or present and I've spoken to a few on this issue. Dignity in defeat and respect for fellow players are in my eyes the 2 main ingredients in any manager, selectors or players including supporters and sadly that was lacking in the departed selector.

While I agree with you and I fully understand but the blame lay's with Terry for keeping him on the side line for his over reaction was nauseating. I feel how ever instead of listening to those that have done nothing up in the press box I would have listened to A. Forde and then made my own decision this is why Terry is the manager or is he.
I remember the game with D McKiernan against Fermanagh what he did to Declan and I know it's unforgivable but this was a heat of the moment reaction and I am sure could have been sorted. Did we not have the same problem going back to E Colemans time when one player used to dance around the place if he did not get his way what happened to him ???
A. Forde gave us Cavan great service during his day's with the County and this should not have been forgotten.

I feel and this is my professional opinion for I am qualified to say this. What Anthony needed was a person to sit down with him and do a wee bit of control management rather than having him fall on the sword that was ready for Terry Hyland.
I wish him well and I hope he gets involved with management with one of the clubs and learns how to make constructive decisions under control. He would have learnt nothing from the current set up.

Mowbar I see your point I'm not defending the manager of the management , my personal opinion is they ALL should have gone. How many times now has Terry changed his selectors since he came in? I also feel Terry by staying will undo all the good work he has done with the u21 by staying. Some of these players must be secretly questioning methods at the moment. After Andrews left I would have preferred a "Pete McGrath" type of manager with Terry as assistant and ready to step up now to manager after 3 year with someone like McGrath. That was the way things should have gone. Then bring someone like Peter Reilly in as well so when Terry stepped up to manager Reilly could have become assistant. That's a continuation process we should have looked at. McGrath defo was the man we let slip through our hands considering his vast experience with underage players in Down before he won Senior All Ireland's. Terry's never going to learn coz he's nobody to learn from? So what comes behind Terry from within the county won't learn much either. How can they? They going to make it up? Even Malachy o rourke when he left Fermanagh should have been approached. That's 2 we let slip. Our former Chairman has a lot to answer to. He pushed Andrews on the clubs while wearing blinkers.

Any word of Terry having a re-think and walking away?
It's not too late yet terry if you're reading this.

I believe the manager has left the building after a heated meeting with CB officials thursday afternoon.now cavan football can move on and get its best players back playing and reach a level where cavan football should be.

No such luck Gaelsutd, we're stuck with him for another season at least. Will be 2017 before Cavan will make a new start, but with the present County Board in situ, I wouldn't be too confident of that either.

Sure why would they get rid of them, he's has brought so much discipline and success to team! the Intercontinental Cup sits pride of joy in the trophy cabinet in Breffni Park...

Are we going to defend the Intercontiental Cup next year??? 2 in a row would be nice for Terry to go with the U21 titles ... Put him right up there with the elite managers! New York will be gunning for revenge but or know how and experience should pull us through to a rematch with London!!! We are Londons bogey team this past few years especially since Terry took the regins.. He seems to have perfected the art of beating them. Tactics again on the day will be vital but 7 league games in Div 2 should be they key to retaining this prestigious cup !!

Isn't it strange the way the term "intercontinental cup" increases in hilarity each time it's posted? You'd think you'd tire of it but it just grows on you.

There was another one about being held scoreless in a half of football. Got me every time.

Good times.

Skelling.. The Intercontiental cup is prestigious in its own right , winning it keeps us from slipping out of the top 30! Two in a row now has to be the goal for 2016. I know for a fact Terry takes the competition very seriously and uses it to work on plans A ,B, C, Ect. The players are also focused and have no problem about flying 5000 miles 2 weeks before the championship!
