Roscommon v Cavan

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

With Ned stormcrow and Goonie missing today there seemed much less moaning from Cavan supporters today. Make sure ye stay for the rest of the games too. Good away point but probably should have been 2 points.

Good game of ball lads and I think the draw was the right result. We had a few goal chances, hit the post at least 4 times but got gifted a few scores from frees. Lot of lads on our own forum a bit hangdog as the two home points were a real target here given how tough this division is going to be. Sorry dont know all yere players but thought yere No 4 was outstanding and McKernan got some fabulous scores from midfield.
Good luck in rest of campaign. Looks like every game will be a battle.

We dominated midfield and breaking ball. Half back line very good especially Fergal Flanagan. Full forward line a concern. Mc Dermot struggled winning his own ball today while Lyng was bypassed. He really should have being off at half time. Martin Dunne looked disinterested. Need Mackey or someone who will work well in there. Geroid scored some unreal points. Barry Reilly improved the forward unit.

Well done lads you deserved the draw. Some great long distance points and have a player to kick 45s unlike us. I hope we get to play ye again next year as it will likely mean we stay in div 2.

Great day out in Kiltoom , glad I wen...., but hey sure we cant be picking and choosing the fixtures to attend when it comes to the county team. The panel of players have committed themselves to the cause why wouldn't the rest of us. An Cabhan Abu

Well done Cavan overall deserved the draw, it's not the end of the world for either side, it's going to be a cracking competitive league hopefully both sides kick on and stay up at the least.

I fully expected Ross to top this group. They have very strong forward talent, so this point is a terrific result for us and we could have taken both if a few dubious decisions had gone our way.

First class battling performance from a group of lads that are never short on spirit. Think some u21 additions, particularly upfront, will help our spread of scorers, Argue, Madden and Hayes.

Yesterday's results all round indicate that we should stay in Div 2 at the very least, provided we continue to display such appetite. Well done to the players and mgnt.

After the previous Saturday night its good to see that we can score 8 times in the second half. Let's hope we can step it up again next Saturday night down in Portlaoise.

Good display all round. We should be happy with this draw. Roscommon got the benefit of a few very dodgy referees decisions in 2nd half otherwise we had them bet, played great attack minded football in second half a big improvement on the Tyrone game. Was great to see our lads tear into them and score early in second half . Post match pub suggestion!!! Killian Clarke for the forty? He can take scores very nicely. Gunner or DJ can both play midfield or at number 6 and leave Killian Clarke free to attack. MOTM Gearoid was superb in midfield. Martin Dunnes first half long range free was great to see. Well done to the management for lifting themselves and the lads after all the criticism of last week. Onwards now to Laois. A win in the next one would be a great base to launch our home games on. That future still looks blue.

Here is a Cavan Team I would have played against Roscommon

#1 Farrelly
#2 Hayes
#3 Dunne
#4 McLoughlin
#5 Moynagh
#6 R.Flangan
#7 McKeever
#8 Clarke
#9 G.McKiernan
#10.Barry Reilly
#11 M.Reilly
#12 C.Conroy
#13 M.Dunne

Roscommon only have two home games left they will be lucky to stay up. Galway or Down will top the group.

King larry.... Not a bad team but I would not have Conroy or Jack Brady on...they are not up to the standard in my view...Jack has been very dissapointing... I would stick in McVitty and Tom Hayes.... On another point I dont see the point of jholding back the U21's at this stage as survival in div 2 or indeed a push for something better would be much more important than another Ulster U 21 tital...

So after the game Kinglarry suggests we should have dropped our captain, Feargal Flanagan who was probably our man of the match and Dara McVeety who wasn't far behind... Sign him up Terry.

Actually a bit disappointed yesterday leaving Kiltoom. Though we should have won the game . I honestly think we left it behind us on a number of fronts. 1 the amount of ball that we gave away in good position s was shocking by the same 4 players all the time.2 the ref gave 3 shocking decisions in favour of Rossies. Gifted them 3 points . How slow we were to make changes . There should have been 2 changes after 15 mins. I said earlier that we will be judged on our league performance. We need to be ruthless. The ball into the full forward line was way too slow . It's only a last option that we give it in . I'm not being critical just constructive. I believe we are playing more attack minded but there are a few players that are not and we're caught out more than once and remained on the pitch . Let's talk the talk and walk the walk . There's something to work on before Loais. I know we will . Think this will be a very tricky game , so please no over hyping, build on yesterday and try and get both points. 3 points from 2 away games would be massive. Keep up the good work lads let's build

Good performance by the lads....don't understand all the criticism before the game.we have great men like rory Dunne, gearoid,Clarke, flanagan.these are young men who have already gave great service to the county, they are mad to work hard, improve and win games.first thing first we have to be competitive in every game which we play.then we build on this picking up wins while the lads gain more experience at the higher levels.i remember us beating ros comprehensively in 2010 but then fall apart over in drogheda, we don't want to go back to those see-saw games where we could win by 5 or lose by 15.i have great confidence in these lads.sure we all get frustrated with the sideways motion but we're getting there.the ball HAS to move quicker at times tho

With regards the game on sun we gave the ball away a lot giving away easy scores, the ref was shocking I thought against us, we did well around the middle, big G kicked a few unreal scores.mc veety, flanagan and k Clarke were very good.its no secret we are poor in the ff line.jack Brady or lyng not the answer but I would persevere with Dunne tho.B Reilly great option for the 40-very talented footballer.we have to sort out a few things tho-where is r flanagan, damien Reilly, k Clarke, mc veety actually playing they're moved around too much for me.i feel killian and G are a potential midfield partnership.special word for the cavan supporters-around me they were very vocal and supportive of the lads.we are a proud footballing county and we should be proud of our boys.this was a tight pitch and I think the support of the crowd helped and sure if it was only a tiny help it's something. To everyone else get out to the games and play your part.

Just wondering who moderates this forum? Is it the Cavan County Board. It seems that constructive criticism isnt allowed. Unless your comments are favourable they dont seem to post them.
Just read a comment from a Roscommon supporter on their forum and he actually summed the game up pretty well - two division 3 teams slogging it out against each other and I would have to agree. Most of the time, the build up is far too slow, theres not enough quick ball. Ive read a few comments about our ineffective full forward line - in order to have an effective full forward line, the ball needs to be put in quicker. We hold onto the ball far too long, lads taken an extra solo, or a bounce. The key when you get the ball is to immediately look up to see who has made the run, if theres nothing on, by all means keep possession.

Can t help feeling a Draw in Div 2 is a loss, but we ll see how it pans out. Defo one point home game for Roscommon is no good. We have Meath away Laois away? Whos in Breffni? Kildare & Galway could do a serious job on us. If they win midfield & attack with pace they ve been use to in Div one, dunno if our game plan could hold that for more than 50 min...

I dont listen to line ups anymore it takes 20 players, but felt Cavan from what i ve seen are slow to change. M Lyng has nt worked maybe a better sub when it slows down & possession is more important. D O Reilly taking dead balls ?? Slicing long kicks off side of his foot? Early Nineties trick! Small Margins lads get the keeper up.. Tyrone do it everytime gives players a breather & kills the ball....

I ll be back next week with more advice..
