NFL Division 2 2015

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

So Cavan have been drawn for 3 home games and 4 away games. Is it jut me, or do Cavan get more away games every year (anyone have the stats for this, i'm only going on my own memory that we get more away games every year). One less game a year will also affect gate receipts. I know that with 8 teams, 4 of those will have to play an extra game away, but we even start with 2 away games to Roscommon and Laois. This is a bit lousy, the least they could do is set up that home and away games are on alternate weekends too. It just seems to be Cavan every year.

Any other thoughts on the draw for Div 2?

It's vital we stay in Div2 as it could take years to get promotion if we went back down. 5 points might see us stay up although it looks difficult to see where that 5 points might come from. All depends how seriously other counties take the league . Could beat Westmeath n Down might nick a draw against Laois or Meath. Going to be very difficult but we definitely need div 2 football for a few years if we are serious about raising our standard.

Can't see us getting near promotion, staying up will be an achievement

How is it mathematically possible to stay in Div 2 with 5 points. If Cavan only get five points they will be in Div 3 for 2016. They will take no draw from down. To be honest Div 3 beckons

It's going to be very difficult to stay up with 5 points. My opinion is that we will need 6.
final table
Meath..... 10
Kildare....10
Galway......8
Roscommon...8
Laois.......6
Down........6
Cavan.......5
Westmeath...3

At least wait until the McKenna Cup before going all doom and gloom in it.

Great to see the usual doom and gloom on here. We'll only get five points yet we have beaten Meath, Roscommon and Westmeath competitively in the last 24 months. The fact about Division 2 is that all the teams are capable of beating each other. It's a tough league but we're capable of at least holding our own in it.

I don't see why Cavan supporters are always doom and gloom. I read another forum and the Meath lads think they are already promoted! I wish we could have some of their optimism because we've alot more reason for it.

I agree with Breffniguide that the usual doom and gloom merchants are out.
When we win something , do we ever hear from them?? The answere is No!!
Personally I think we will more than hold our own and if we get off to a good start who knows where we could end up.
The recent Junior All Ireland win will give a boost to the wider squad and I expect to see a good few of these lads featuring next year. I also think Terry will change our style of play and we are much better than we showed that dreadful day in Breffni against the Rossies. Killian Clarke,Ronan Flanagan,Dara Mc Veety will be back so a much stronger squad.
So we will surprise a few people!!

People forget that last year against Roscommon we were missing 7/8 first team starters. That's alot for any team to be missing. I have faith in our lads coming back with a bang and a few new additions to the panel from the U21s also.

Tough Division made even worst by the draw which is a nightmare scenario for us have to win our three home games and try and get some points on the road two years ago Longford and Roscommon went up and both got relegated straight down again, if we can survive Div. 2 next year it will be an achievement in itself!

whay all the doom and gloom...hasnt the whole county being lauding the under age teams and the blue future..Surely we should be pushing for promotion with our amazing panel off players with pockets of medals and experience off big games

Some of these lads have been around since 2010/ 2011 so it's time they started performing. Young mc brearty and Ryan mc hugh were playing u16 back in 2010 and young o Connor was playing u14 then. So how can Teams like Donegal bring the young lads on but we can't? What are we lacking? It must be something. If your good enough your old enough . We need improvement all around management included or those 4 ulsters will be all in vain if we don't have the expertise to bring these lads forward .

Will the lads who abandoned the panel to go off for the summer be automatically back in? My opinion is on reflection it is crunch time for the Hyland and Forde management team. They are not goin to want to go out on a failure with people calling for their heads ,so I reckon they will up the game big time and deliver. Yes they had a bad end of season with the seniors , the exception of the juniors was a great achievment but not quite the same thing as senior football. So will we see a more determined management team more determined than ever to get the most out of the panel? They have to demand that players commit and any wanting to do solo runs to feather their own nests are not team players and put the whole thing at risk. Find 30 committed players who are footballers, look after them properly and get the most out of them, its not rocket science! We can do it just start believin again.

I believe cavan are useless and will lose every game by 40 points. Hopefully I am being negative enough for everyone.

that's interesting virginiablue75. well done for researching that.

I wonder how do other teams do in this regard,

I suppose its hard to get consistency if you are moving up and down the divisions and playing different counties every year.

I'd suggest you look at the fixtures. Every county has at least 3 home games. Laois play Cavan, Roscommon and Kildare at home.
Who are the 7/8 starters Roscommon were missing then? Cavan were missing Martin Dunne, Killian Clarke, Cian Mackey, Ronan Flanagan, Dara McVeety and Rory Dunne amongst others. Those are some of your key players.

I cannot believe Cavan people are not up in arms regarding Des Cahill comments on Up For The Match or have I been told lies for the last 30 odd years. When talking to the last remaining member of the Kerry team from the 47 all Ireland in the Polo Grounds he stated that Kerry won the final. He went onto talk to him about missing out on the triumphant home coming. To make matter worse Seamus Moynihan didn't correct him but played along with the whole thing. Is there anyone else out there annoyed that one of the top RTE sports presenters doesn't know who win the most famous All Ireland ever played. God my poor auld father put his booth through the telly.

Tried setting up new topic for this but it wasnt working out.

Goonie I expect he did not wish to destroy an old mans dream. A long time ago you know who won it every GAA supporter in Ireland and the USA know it so no big issue really is it.
