How come Gowna V Cavan Gaels a 1st round match was first match played of the championship.Is it not normal to play the two preliminary games before round 1st Round games?. The rest of round one games I hear are not been played until weekend 15th/16th/17th of August three week after the last Fridays game.

It was played earlier at Canavan's request.He has a lot of media commitments with Sky and BBC coming up over the next two weekends with the 4th round qualifier and the 1/4 finals so he would not have had time to be at the gaels game if it was on over the next two weekends.

That's quite a tale, Pmus. Cavan Gaels Senior Team must play in the Championship before there Intermediate Team. And with there Intermediate Team in the Prelim Rd this year, the Gaels/ Gowna Rd 1 Fixture had to be played early.

I think this years Championship is very open, i know you have the usual's in Kingscourt, Castlerahan, Cavan Gaels, Mullahoran etc... but there isn't a definite winner to choose from! Hopefully one of the underdogs can push on this year and have a good go at it, maybe Killygarry, Drumalee or the likes of Redhills can give it a rattle, would be great to see one of them finally doing something in it! I don't even think Ballinagh will make the Semi's, still to this day can't believe they won it last year!

Probably tonight i would assume but with no fixtures being played this weekend coming they could wait til next Monday night. Giving out the dates, venue's & times tonight or tomorrow would make more sense!

Agree 100%. Why couldn't the County Board not of fixed them Monday night are their meeting? I'm sure all clubs wanna know as soon as possible when they are out next weekend instead of waiting 4 or 5 days before it to find out. And with no games this weekend it made sense to fix them Monday night. But the County Board don't surprise anymore!

I always look at the Cavan GAA website for the fixtures, they were only fixed or put up late last night. Yes we know there was no games this weekend but as said above by "wishfulthinkin", people have to work and have lives aswell. Alot of players have to work around games and training yano. It's abit more helpful now Clubs know when they are taking place abit beforehand. It wasn't a whinge, just looking for abit of commen sense to prevail instead of waiting 3/4 days to find out before a Championship game.
