Cavanblueman::: My feeling is that Mickey needs to start with the young lads coming through, lads over 20, he needs to start bringing them in now and start working with them and forget about the older ones if he wants to bring Cavan forward."
===============================================================================================
You say bring in the young lads that are there and work on them what about the young lads out there that never get a sniff.

If the present manager is allowed to stay on which I expect that he will he has to get out there on his own and watch the potential. But I ask will he do that I expect it will no different this time next year probably worse that it is today.

The top notches could not wait to get rid of the last manager well at least he took Tyrone to three points and was left down by some of players mention above on the day. They know who they are.

Today Cavan are no where as good as they were with the previous manager I don't blame the present manager for that BUT questions have to be asked from those around him.

Lets see what next January brings us if the same players an early end to the season once again.

Looking through the posts since I logged out I see a few are seeing things the way I have mentioned thats a plus.."
I tend not to post anymore as certain people hijack every forum to vent their own personal gripes against the county board, former managers or whoever. I'm sorry but someone has to call this individual our. I in all my years of going to club matches have never once seen him at one. Whats more, I have rarely seen him at club matches in breifne, before or after illness. The digs at players commitment, club managers and people involved in this counties football are nothing short of disgraceful. This is made worse by the fact that this individual was for a long time employed by same organisation. Now if they regularly attended games I would accept the criticism but this is a personal vendetta nothing more nothing less.

He is only bitter cause his FAS scheme ended and county board ran him.

Neil McGee, Paddy McGrath, Murphy, McBrearty, Leo McCloone and Frank McGlynn all played in 2012
A strong set of 6 players and still fairly central to Donegal's game plan. More than 1/3 of the team from 7 years ago.

The simple problem is Cavan haven't had players as good as these. A lot of talk about what is it, 70 players passing through the panel in recent years. As if the high turnover is the issue. None of the 70 would have started for Donegal ahead of these lads in their prime. High turnover is not the problem, it is a symptom of a lack of real quality.

And if anyone mentions the U21s, nearly a decade on, lord help us all..."
Lee McCloone and frank mc Glynn are squad players this past 2 years. Mc Brearty was out injured for nearly a year. Neil Mc Gee only returned when their new full back had a nightmare against Meath in the league final.

McGloone is a regular under Bonner. He left the panel under Gallagher. McGee only returned a few weeks before Meath game after club commitments with Geweedore.

Donegal had a excellent Minor team in 2014 which reached all Ireland final. A lot of those are backbone of senior team now.

We had 4 winning u21 teams, a winning Ulster minor team and a mc Rory cup winning team.
Now we are well use to getting beaten down through the years but the manner in how we got beaten is the biggest concern.
Not ONE player last Saturday stood up and showed any kind of willing or interest after the first 10 minutes.
Actually a few so called superstars did their best to be black or red carded because things were not going our way. How can that be defended?
The Manager can only do so much. Players have to show some willing .
That was the worst performance I ever saw from a Cavan team in the championship.
I hope I never see the likes of KC in a Cavan jersey again. He's not worthy of a blue jersey. He brings absolutely nothing to the team.

I think the point about the likes of Donegal, Tyrone, and even Dublin, teams who have had less successful or similarly successful getting 4 or 5 well conditioned grown men on to the Senior team from those teams is the biggest issue we face, or the biggest problem.

We have got little or nothing from them teams, a lot of those who are there are still too light and side ways pass merchants who do not make any incisive contribution at senior level. Many have just plateau'd at that level and even at club level, a lot of the same lads are not making massive dents or standing out in the c'ship, even compared to players who a lot of the time do not have the natural fitness for county level but are much more dynamic with possession.

Not them all mind, McVeety and Martin Reilly are brilliant club level to name 2 but a lot of the panel. And those are the lads who can make an impact at county level when they are not double marked. It's when they are double marked that we have nothing else is the problem. Or that there is that little of a threat elsewhere that teams can afford to double mark them.

I think the hype issue that a few other posters mentioned is also something that does not help, and building players up because a couple of good games is something that happens all the time.

I remember back when expectations were a bit higher around the early 2000's and supporters were still very cynical towards the likes of Jason & Larry etc. proclaiming them to be no good from the stands, those same lads are legends now looking back on it, but in contrast these days you listen to Cavan Football's most foremost Gaa podcast (which I listen too myself occasionally for the bit of news which it is good for), and you hear one of the lads on talking about Conor Madden, who tried very hard against Tyrone, probably our best player on the day, and had a decent year overall with some classy and important contributions here and there, and Conor is being listed among the top players that we "uncovered" this year that has made it as a permanent fixture of consistency to take into next year.

If it had of stopped at that I would have took issue with the consistency element of the summary but not been too annoyed. But the next thing is the same guy went on to say that Madden was getting towards a level where Madden could be as good as Conor McManus, "if not better".

"If not better than Conor McManus"!!!

Last year the same guy proclaimed during the c'ship after young Cian Madden took a ball off Gerald Pierson or someone for Gowna before kicking an important late free himself, that Cian Madden's ability and career was on the same trajectory as Peter Canavan and that he should be thrown from the start for Cavan at the start of this year. Without having done much more than reminded the lad of the Mulligan handing the ball to Canavan incident from 2012 or whenever it was..

I have nothing against Gowna or anyone with the surname Madden either, they are just 2 of incidents that spring to mind and both are very good footballers, but with a lot still yet to prove which is my point, and How the hell are lads going to think they need to improve when you have that kind of carry on for them to listen in the face of embarrassing hammerings by Tyrone.

Forwards like Jack Brady, Conor Madden C o Reilly need to be playing regularly . How in gods name are they going to improve when they are only used as subs especially when we losing a match.
Play the consistently , get them use to playing together and hopefully with game time they will come good.
They ain't going to come good getting 10 mins here and there .
And we ain't going to get much bigger hidings than we got against Tyrone. So give them game time and lots of it. Game time breeds confidence . 10 mins here and there doesn't do anything for anybody .

To me it sounds like you do, hope that is your rant over about the Madden's.

By the way are Conor and Cian Madden brothers?

Maddens, Hartons, Piersons Brady, Fitzpatricks to name a few are common enough names in Gowna and most have served their club and county well.

Certainly not. Both are very promising footballer's.

If it was a rant at all, it was about Cavan supporters and that particular podcast blowing up loads of players inside the county to levels they have not yet reached in reality, not even saying that they will not reach those levels either..

Those were just examples that came to mind as I was typing, probably because those two lads were involved in both occasions I remember the podcaster got that carried away he used comparisons to all time greats.

I think even the most ardent Gowna supporter would admit neither player has yet reached the level of McManus or Canavan in their prime just yet. Hopefully they will in the future.

The Quiet Man has also subsequently chipped in with a list of some of the more famous surnames of your parish, which I hope will be of comfort to you.

Yes well respected footballing families as well and good friends I might add.
I agree with breffblue101 when he posted about players being as good as ect when in fact they have the potential to be as good as players compared too. This is spot on, people have being blowing C O'Reilly up that much he must feel he has made it and rightly so but I have been saying all along in conversation he has not got near his potential and his ability to take care of himself at senior inter-county level yet. One of the reasons we lose so many because by the time it comes to inter-county level they are near burnt out. Names that have been mentioned by breffblue101 have outstanding potential bur take them slowly and stop putting weight on their shoulders with big heads.
By the way the names that breffblue101 mentioned deserve to be mentioned and lets hope so going forward with many more developing as they are.

Roscommon performance today shows how abject we were last week. Cork also put up a great show for 55 minutes. I think if we had made the super 8's we'd have been looking at 3 defeats.

Roscommon were at home with a very generous ref, off the back of a provincial win, and were still comfortably beaten.

Cork lost by 13.

We are better than Cork, we are at least on a par with Roscommon and by god we are a good bit better than Meath.

I'm not excusing the terrible performance by our lads last weekend but had we drawn Clare or Laois, we'd be there and we'd be competing.

. Player for player Cork have better footballers then Cavan. Particularly in the forwards. Hurley, Collins, Deane

I think Cork are playing Tyrone next week this will be a far better guide for Cavan to make a comparison. Very difficult yesterday with 15 minuets to go Cork were not doing to bad against the All Ireland champions so lets see how they get on against Tyrone and off course they have Roscommon as well. Remember Cork are a division 3 team now as well. They are performing above what one expected and had they played like they did yesterday and the Munster final they may well have got promoted instead of relegated thats the situation. Things for a change are looking up for Cork and if they continue as they are they will give Tyrone a lash.
Roscommon are no easy team and again had they stopped going for goals the result yesterday might have been far different.
Maybe Cork will not get a point but having said that don't be surprised if they do. I like their passion and if Cavan played with that type of passion the majority of Cavan supporters like myself would be happy instead of leaving disappointed by another very poor performance.

25 of the teams in championship 2019 are now irrelevant. Cavan are numbered among them.

Division 3.

They've beaten Limerick and Laois.

Our backs would handle those lads. Their backs are awful.

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of talent in Cork. More than in about 26 other counties, but they're terribly managed and player-for-player goes out the window when that's the case. Remember everyone said the same about Clarke, O'Neill and Campbell when we played Armagh.

It's never quite feast or famine. We got too carried away when we made the ulster final and now we're completely down on the lads after the Tyrone defeat.

They are a different team from the League and aren't a division 3 team . They competed with Dublin for 60.minutes.
The Dublin backs struggled on the Cork forwards so don't see why Cavan would contain them.
