Widespread sorrow followed the passing of Eugene 'Sonny' Farraghan of Kespenduff, Maudabawn, a man who farmed all his life and was exceptionally popular with his many friends and neighbours. A respected member of the community, Sonny is remembered as a gifted footballer who lined out at centrefield for Drumgoon for many years. He was also president of Drumgoon GAA, whose members formed a Guard of Honour at his removal to Maudabawn Chapel.
