Kieran Donaghy has urged his former Kerry attacking colleague James O'Donoghue to spend less time in the gym as he seeks a return to full fitness.

The Killarney Legion clubman, who has a long history of shoulder problems, made his first appearance of the year as a substitute in the Kingdom's Allianz League defeat to Mayo last Saturday night.

"I'd love to see him get an injury-free spell, get a run of games under his belt and rediscover his Footballer of the Year form from 2014," Donaghy wrote in his Irish Daily Star column.

"He put on a lot of bulk around his shoulders to try and protect that.

"But they still keep popping out and he had more surgery that sidelined him. I'd like him just to forget about that bulk and just concentrate on his football."
