Davy Fitzgerald knew the result of the Dublin-Galway game in Parnell Park before Wexford's Leinster SHC clash with Kilkenny at Innovate Wexford Park had ended.

Dublin's win over Galway knocked the 2017 All-Ireland champions out of the championship, while Wexford's draw with Kilkenny set up a Leinster final rematch between the two.

"We knew with five minutes to go," Fitzgerald told RTÉ.

"The boys came to tell me what the story was and I went out to Dee (Diarmuid) O’Keeffe to tell him what the story was and I told him we needed to get that score more than anything and try and push on and win if we could.

"We played a few minutes with only 14 and we survived."

The Wexford manager was already looking forward to the provincial final in a fortnight's time.

"It's our second Leinster final in three years," he noted.

"I think we were very unlucky not to be there last year. We were only beaten by a point last year and it hurt a lot.

"So we've another date with Kilkenny. It's our fourth time this year, we'll be sick of seeing one another. But I love playing against them. You're going to get 110 per cent. If my team gives 110 per cent, you'd never know.

"I think it's a 50-50 game, and we'll look forward to it. We've nothing won today except the character and determination from either side was incredible."
