"There's probably no better side at it really"

Cork football manager Ronan McCarthy reckons there's no better side in the country than Tyrone when it comes to "counter-attacking ability".

The Rebels take on the Red Hands on Saturday evening looking to a book a place in the inaugural Super 8s and McCarthy, who is in his first year at the helm in Leeside, knows they face a sizeable task in Portlaoise (throw-in 5pm).

"They're a team that is regularly involved in big games at the business end of the season so you'd be very familiar with their personnel and how they play," McCarthy is quoted saying by The Irish News.

"I'm expecting manic work-rate, defensive solidity, but I don't think they get the credit for their counter-attacking ability. There's probably no better side at it really.

"When they turn you over, the way they break in numbers and support each other up the pitch is a joy to behold at times when they move the ball quickly. They have real quality players, game-changers, the likes of Tiernan McCann and Peter Harte, Mattie Donnelly, they're top players who would get into any inter-county team anywhere around the country.

"From our point of view, backlash or not, we have to try and see, from the Tipp game, the Kerry match, can we try and get a more balanced performance and see where it takes us. If we play well, we'll cause lots of teams trouble - including Tyrone."
