Munster MHC: Rebels finish with a flourish

Clare's Fionn Slattery with Paul Cooney of Cork during the Munster MHC clash at Pairc Ui Chaoimh

Cork 0-26

Clare 3-13

Cork scored the last six points to open their Munster MHC campaign with a win over Clare at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

After winning the inaugural All-Ireland U17 championship last year, big things are expected of John Considine's charges and they showed their quality by finishing strongly after trailing for much of the game.

Clare, who played most of the second half with 14 players after Tony Butler was sent off on a second yellow card, were in a strong position coming up to half-time when two goals from Mark Rodgers and one from Gearoid O'Grady had them leading by 3-7 to 0-12. Cork got points back before the break per Olan Broderick and Evan Murphy before their captain Shane Barrett - one of two survivors from last year's victorious team - levelled 10 minutes after the restart.

With Kealan Guyler, Aidan Moriarty and William Halpin all on target, Clare regained the lead, but the Rebels eventually made their numerical advantage count when unanswered points from Alan Connolly (two), Paddy O'Flynn (two), Cathal Hickey and Daniel Hogan between the 56th and 63rd minutes got them over the line.
