Clare’s David Fitzgerald has acknowledged the “outstanding” work his namesake is doing with Wexford.

The younger Fitzgerald, who was handed his Clare debut by Davy Fitz in 2016, starred at centre forward on the Banner County side that defeated the Model County in Wexford Park on Sunday.

When asked about his fellow countyman, the Clare ace told The Irish Times: “We’d all know him. He knows all of us inside out. We’d have worked with him.

“What he has done with Wexford has been outstanding. They were very unlucky not to get to an All-Ireland final last year. They’ll be there or thereabouts again this year for championship.”
