Clare manager Colm Collins admits that FL2 is set to be seriously competitive.

The fall out from relegation from FL2 is far greater this year than it has been in the past as the bottom two will face into the second tier All-Ireland SFC.

On paper, Clare are regarded as one of the counties that will be battling to avoid the drop alongside this Sunday’s opponents Westmeath.

Thus, the game at Cusack Park, Mullingar is a real ‘four-pointer’ with the losers being put on the backfoot straight away.

“There is no two-ways about it, only that Division 2 is seriously competitive. There is very little between all the teams in it and I think a lot of the games will come down to one or two scores,” Collins told the Clare Champion.

“We just have to make sure that everything we can control, we will control. We might not win every day but we should be there or thereabouts and hopefully we will get the things right that might edge the results our way.”

The Allianz Football and Hurling Leagues are back this weekend and so is the Hogan Stand Match Tracker. Join us on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon for live score and updates from the opening rounds.
