The stage is set for a massive double bill in Portlaoise

There was key action today in both the SFC and SHC, with three All-Ireland quarter-final places up for grabs.

A novel double-header at Portlaoise commenced at 2pm with the fourth-round SF Qualifier clash of Clare and Meath. The winners would join Donegal, Kerry and Mayo in Group One of the Super 8s.

In the second installment at O'Moore Park, Joe McDonagh Cup winners Laois entertained Dublin in a hostoric encounter to see who'd advance to next Sunday's All-Ireland SHC quarter-final against Tipperary at Croke Park.

Meanwhile, at 3pm in Mullingar, McDonagh Cup runners-up Westmeath played host to Cork in the second of today's SHC preliminary quarter-finals. The winners will take on Kilkenny in the curtain-raiser at Croker in seven days' time.
