Clare captain Gary Brennan admits it would be remiss of them to dismiss recent results against Meath.

The sides meet in Cusack Park, Ennis on Saturday in round six of the FL2 campaign with both needing the points for different reasons.

A win for the Royals would virtually guarantee them Division One football next year, while a victory for Clare would ease the threat of relegation.

If previous meetings are anything to go by, this should be a comfortable win for the Royals who have beaten the Banner by double-digit scores in their last two meetings.

Brennan is well aware of this fact and he stressed to the Clare Champion that they have been trying to figure out why Meath have such a hold over them.

“I think it would be foolish of us not to look at why they’ve had our number in recent games. They’ve caused a lot of damage to us, so I don’t think we can look on them as just another opponent because we have to be conscious of what they have done in previous years,” said Brennan.

“Management have already highlighted a couple of things we need to be wary of and some of the discipline we showed against Fermanagh will be very important against Meath.

“They are flying high now in the division and they’re battling very well. They went right to the wire with Kildare and got the goal in injury time to get the win, so they’re obvious a team in good form and good spirits and will be coming down the road expecting to get two points.

“It is up to us to bring a performance that will firstly get us into the game and make us competitive and after that then hopefully be good enough to get is the two points.”
