Ballyea manager Kevin Sheehan paid tributes to the club’s travelling supporters.

The Clare champions’ supporters were in full voice last weekend as their side met Waterford kingpins Ballygunner in the Munster club SHC semi-final.

In what turned out to be an epic contest, two spells of extra time was needed to separate the sides as Ballygunner just shaded it in the end.

A disappointed Sheehan told the Clare Champion that their supporters had played their part in what had been a great year overall.

“They’re brilliant. They’re outstanding. We knew all week that there was going to be a good few coming down the night before and the morning of the game. They were sat in the stand early, which was important,” said Sheehan.

“When we landed here, they were already in the stand, which showed to us that we weren’t going to be outnumbered; we’d 50/50 in the stand, which was a nice touch. That was great from the Ballyea supporters to come down in such numbers.

“Our supporters remind me a bit of the Munster following in and around the 2000 era when their fans were the 16th man. We really appreciate what our supporters do for us in terms of fundraising, nights out, bringing the kids along to training sessions to meet the lads. They are second to none.”
