As expected, Waterford boss Derek McGrath has omitted Austin Gleeson and Pauric Mahony from his team to face Clare on Sunday.

Injuries have ruled the key duo out of their county's Munster SHC opener in Ennis - Gleeson is struggling with ankle and back problems while Mahony has picked up a finger injury.

There are eleven survivors from the side that started last year's All-Ireland final defeat to Galway as Gleeson and Mahony join brothers Kieran and Shane Bennett (both left the panel since) on the absent list.

Now in his 16th season at inter-county level, 35-year-old Michael Walsh will line-out at full-forward beside Maurice Shanahan and Shane McNulty.

Waterford (Munster SHC v Clare): Stephen O'Keeffe; Shane Fives, Barry Coughlan, Noel Connors; Tadhg de Burca, Darragh Fives, Philip Mahony; Jamie Barron, Conor Gleeson; Kevin Moran, Tom Devine, Jake Dillon; Maurice Shanahan, Michael Walsh, Shane McNulty.
