More Central Ulster GAA Provinicial Stadium needed

(Oldest Posts First)

With Casement Park currently on hold with planning rejected, I have re-Ignited the debate on the viability of Casement park.

I believe that Casement Park is a white elephant and that the home of Ulster Gaelic Games should be in a more Central Ulster location......which logically or geographically would be Co Tyrone.
This would mean a developing green field site between Omagh and Ballygawley, Or if that isn't viable, develop Healy Park in Omagh into a larger 36-38,000 capacity Stadium.

Travelling to Clones( A ground I like ) is a long journey which takes me roughly about 2 hours or slightly less, and Casement park won't be that much shorter in travelling time either. Why not choose a logical location

Whats the consensus among the Cavan Gaels, Casement park or a more central Tyrone venue?

To me the Ulster Final is Clones. Great town for a match. Good parking and great buzz.

The biggest problem we in Cavan have with Ulster finals is not where they are played. It's will we be playing in them. It takes us so long to get to an Ulster final even though Clones is only 15 mile down the road. Playing in Casement or clones Omagh or Ballygawley Ballybofey or Bundoran in an Ulster final wouldn't bother us...even not getting to Ulster finals doesn't seem to bother us either. We are team building only since 2010..We are work in progress . We need time

I don't see the point of moving to Casement park, when we all end up with another long journey. Like there is no benefit to GAA fans in travelling to Belfast for games that could easily be hosted in Clones.

If a new venue has to be built, then and only then would I suggest a location central to all Counties of Ulster.

I agree with doratheexplorer i like Clones for an Ulster final - its a small town and all the supporters are congregated in one street which adds to the pre-match and post match craic.
Pity they never put flood lights in it. Other than that its a grand venue. Maybe the money would be better spent on clones giving the town a much needed boost and would cost less to upgrade it with lights etc than re-developing a new stadium on the outskirts of a city where there is no atmosphere or craic. ( no disrespect to the people of Belfast but its soul less compared to Clones on a big match day. Anyway as dirtbag said its a good to have the hassle of geting to an ulster final. With the roads network in NI most supporters can reach Clones in about 2 hrs
Takes some of us an hour to get to Breffni from the far flung reaches of cavan
Keep it in Clones, always has been and will always be the home of the ulster final. I travel to the Ulster final every year and you just wont get a better atmosphere before during or after the game

I could never see them pumping £70 million stg into Clones, if anything a £5 million or £10 million boost is the best you could hope for if the Casement does collapse.

Attending a game in The New Casement Park will be an expensive little round trip for most people. The cost of attending Croke Park is normally offset by the fact your team is doing extremely well if they are playing there in Summer.

I think it's no harm to see Ulster finals elsewhere, but not in Belfast. Clones had it's day in the sun, time for a change.

Foolsgold .. Let's get to these Ulster Finals first before we have a say in where we think they should be played.
