Carlow senior football manager Turlough O’Brien believes that Saturday night football is the way to go.

And why wouldn’t he think that as he saw his charges claim an opening round win over Wicklow at Netwatch Cullen Park last Saturday night.

O’Brien stressed to the Carlow Nationalist that the atmosphere at Netwatch Cullen Park was electric and that was down to the fact that they played on a Saturday night under lights.

“Saturday night football is great as it allows players to recover the next day,” said O’Brien. “If they were playing Sunday football, they would be back to work or in college the following day. I think the supporters like the Saturday night thing as well.”

Carlow are out this Saturday again, but they face Wexford at Chadwicks Wexford Park at 2pm.
