Rejuvenated O'Donnell raring to go

Clare forward Shane O'Donnell admits that he is looking forward to the year ahead having had a very good preseason.

Last year, O’Donnell’s studies in Harvard disrupted his inter-county career, but his full focus is on hurling in 2020 and that can only be a good thing for Clare hurling.

Having O’Donnell is such form will be like having a new player in the squad and manager Brian Lohan will be well aware of the damage that the sharpshooter can do to defences.

“It has been a brilliant couple of months so far and I have really enjoyed the preseason, which was obviously quite different from a personal point of view to last year,” O’Donnell told the Clare Champion.

“Once you move closer to the league, people get to put the torture and horror of preseason behind them. Last year was a great experience for me but from a hurling point of view, it wasn’t the ideal preparation for championship.

“I missed out on all the preseason and the league and I can already feel myself being more confident for having done it this year.”

Clare begin their HL1 campaign with a home clash against Carlow this Sunday.

The Allianz Football and Hurling Leagues are back this weekend and so is the Hogan Stand Match Tracker. Join us on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon for live score and updates from the opening rounds.
