Mahon eager to put injury nightmare behind him

Portlaoise's Brian McCormack and Richie Mahon of Eire Og

Eire Og defender Richie Mahon has certainly more reason than most to look forward to Sunday’s Leinster club SFC final.

The dreaded cruciate knee ligament has not just struck the hard working defender once, but twice in the last few years and he is just delighted to be back playing.

Mahon will line up alongside his team mates as they face Dublin champions Ballyboden St Enda’s in the provincial defender this weekend.

“First time around I missed the summer and the second time I only got back towards the end of the summer. It was a long road,” said Mahon.

“I have had a fair few injuries. I always had the mindset of getting on with it. You will be long enough not playing so you just get on with it.”
