Steven Poacher’s influence on Carlow football has rubbed off on the club scene, according to Eire Og’s Sean Gannon.
Currently preparing for a Leinster Club SFC final showdown with Ballyboden St Enda’s, Gannon highlighted the positive impact the Down native had during his three-year stint as coach in Turlough O’Brien’s inter-county backroom team.
“Steven was fantastic for us,” Gannon told the Irish Daily Star. “I suppose he instilled a belief in us.
“I remember for years the Carlow players themselves expected to lose but that’s not the case now.
“There’s a lot of Eire Og players in the (Carlow) set-up and we brought that back to the club.
“It’s driving us on. He’s been hugely positive in terms of the players and he has been very good from a coaching perspective.”
