Both sides were understrength at Dr Cullen Park, where Longford beat Carlow by 2-11 to 0-7.

James McGivney's eleventh-minute goal - netted at the second attempt - had the visitors ahead by 1-5 to 0-5 at the break and Patrick Fox added a late major after a flurry of Longford scores from Daniel Mimnagh, McGivney and Joseph Hagan put them out of sight.

Padraic Davis' team will be in tomorrow morning's second-round Qualifier draw, while Carlow's bitterly disappointing summer has come to an end.
