Leinster MFC: Duggan goal enough for Longford

May 08, 2019

Longford's Jack Duggan

Jack Duggan netted the game’s only goal at Dr Cullen Park, where Longford edged out Carlow by 1-8 to 0-9.

The Clonguish clubman lit the match up with a brilliant solo goal in the 19th minute, propelling the visitors into a three-point lead after the first four points of the night had been shared.

The Barrowsiders were back level within two minutes of the restart and drew level twice more after Duggan had nudged the winners back in front.

In a nip and tuck affair, Kevin Tansey’s point left just one between the sides going into the closing stages but three scores in the final six minutes from Duggan (2) and Keelin McCann helped Longford claim their first win of the campaign.

Having lost to Westmeath in the first round a fortnight ago, Longford are now level with the Lake County on the Group One table and will host table-toppers Laois in the last round next week, while Carlow – who drew with Laois – travel to Mullingar next Wednesday. It’s all still to play for in this group!
