Carlow joint-captain Richard Coady has revealed that manager Colm Bonnar has brought the county to a different level of unity since he took over.

The Carlow hurlers have just had arguably their best year ever, winning the Division 2A title which earned them promotion to 1B for 2019 and also winning the Joe McDonagh Cup title which gave them promotion to the Leinster SHC for next year.

They were brought down to earth somewhat by Limerick last weekend when the Shannonsiders produced a devastating display to trounce their opponents.

However, Coady was keen to pay tribute to the man that he feels has brought the county forward since he took over as Bonnar revealed that he will be staying on for another campaign next year.

"Not that it was never there before, but he has brought a huge unity to the team. He has brought a massive amount of pride to the jersey. Lads are just bursting out of their skin to play for Carlow. It was about lads taking ownership, about lads realising how good we are," said Coady.

"With a small group of players and picking from a small base it is realising how good we are and how far we can go. This year we set out two goals at the start of the year. The league and winning Joe McDonagh and we were successful in achieving those goals. It was disappointing against Limerick, but we have to pick ourselves up and look forward to 2019."
