In the latest twist in the Mayo GAA governance row, Tim O’Leary is demanding the return of a €150,000 donation he made to the County Board.

The Irish Independent reports that lawyers representing Mr O’Leary have written a letter to the Mayo County Board threatening legal action if the money is not returned within 21 days.

It is claimed that the money was not used for the purpose for which it was provided and Mr O’Leary intends to redistribute it to Mayo Roscommon Hospice and to promote gaelic games in Mayo schools.

Last month, the Mayo GAA International Supporters Foundation, which is chaired by Mr O’Leary, had pledged to provide €1m to Mayo GAA over the next five years once certain conditions it had set out were met.

The Foundation had given the County Board a deadline of last Monday to respond to the offer but none was forthcoming.
