"They still get to challenge for a provincial title"

Limerick manager Billy Lee has welcomed the introduction of a second-tier senior football championship.

The Treaty County will be in the new competition this summer unless they reach the Munster SFC final and Lee believes it’s worth giving the new format a chance:

“Let’s evolve it and see what happens. In this structure, counties are still getting an opportunity to compete in their provincial championship,” he told The Irish Sun. “They still get to challenge for a provincial title whether they are a Tier One or Tier Two county.

“Most players just want to see some light at the end of the tunnel and I think in this format there is a chance for teams to still aim for a provincial title but also, failing that, there is then a competition in which all the teams involved would hope to be competitive.”
