Patrickswell scored an Easter Sunday upset over champions Na Piarsaigh in the second round of the Limerick senior hurling championship this afternoon.

Ciaran Carey’s side were full value for their 2-17 to 1-15 win in Kilmallock, where two first-half goals from Kevin O’Brien paved their path for a second victory in as many games.

O’Brien’s majors and points from Jason Gillane went a long way towards the victors taking in a 2-8 to 0-9 lead at the break.

Kevin Downes, Alan Dempsey and Peter Casey were the chief score getters for the holders during the opening half-hour but they’d fail to score from play for the entire second-half.

Shane Dowling’s frees managed to trim the difference down to two for Na Piarsaigh heading towards the closing stages, but ‘The Well’ regrouped and sent over points via Josh Considine, Andrew Carroll and Calvin Carroll before Dowling hit a consolation goal from a 21-metre free in injury-time.

Today’s other senior clash in the Treaty County saw Murroe-Boher and Knockainey playing out a 0-16 to 1-13 draw in Caherconlish, where Seanie Tobin’s 12th point in injury-time rescued a second draw in the championship for Murroe-Boher.
