Experienced Laois defender Darren Strong has announced his retirement from inter-county football - just six days after lining out against Meath in the O'Byrne Cup.

The 33-year-old, who made his senior championship debut versus Meath in 2010 and represented the O'Moore County at the highest level for 10 years, has cited work commitments as the reason for bringing the curtain down on his inter-county career but plans to continue to line out with his club Emo.

He becomes the second Laois footballer to retire in recent months following Niall Donoher's decision to step away from John Sugrue's squad.
