Brian Cody wasn't using Kilkenny's recent hectic schedule as an excuse from their All-Ireland SHC exit at the hands of Limerick.

Playing their third championship game in as many weeks, the Cats lost to Limerick for the first time in 45 years following battle in Thurles.

"We don't have any excuses, we don't want any excuses, there are no excuses," Cody told RTÉ.

"[We're] not even remotely thinking about the fact that we played three weeks in-a-row but it beats not playing. I said beforehand that will have nothing to do with it."

The veteran Kilkenny manager praised Limerick for their reaction to Richie Hogan's goal which gave Kilkenny a two-point lead with five minutes remaining.

"It was a terrific response. That's the quality they have, they've been showing it all year. It's over to them now to bring it on forward to the next game," he added.
